A bit dusty in here at the end of that piece.

I hadn't realised that he was the last man standing of that final-winning XI.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Has been for a while.

I had the pleasure of hosting him at a works golf day as a guest speaker. I spent an hour talking to him about each member of the squad in my 1970 Mexico panini album.

What a gentleman. Modest. Full of great story's and admiration for his team mates.

I was an official when he played for the Denis Waterman Xl at a charity match in Great Yarmouth seemed like a nice fellow. I also signed the match ball along with all the stars that day

Sir Geoff is indeed the last of the legendary 11 shows the World Cup that glorious Saturday in late July 1966 - remember it well. I believe Ian Callaghan and Terry Paine, both of whom were the squad, are with us still. Managed by the late great Sir Alf.

He is a really good guy, went on holiday to Tenerife with my in-laws was their only holiday abroad as we were getting on the plane the mother in law spotted him and he clocked her and said hello. Turned out they went to school together and he remembered her all those years later, now that’s grounded for you.

Gary Neville chocked up talking about Nobby Styles. Didn't realise he was the under 17's coach at Man U.

Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

very grounded. After his football career he worked in the insurance industry with Martin Peters. Came to our workplace to sell us an insurance scheme, extended warranties on electrical items. I worked for an electrical retailer , my area of responsibility being extended warranties. Lovely fellow, very down to earth despite the obvious hero-worship in the eyes of those he met that day.

He was also guest speaker at an end of season dinner that I attended many years ago. I remember he did a fantastic impression of Alan Ball. Ironically Bally had been the guest speaker the year before. Very informative but utterly dull.

The best speaker was Jimmy Greaves, a couple of seasons later. Laugh a minute. I recall he said of Emile Heskey something like "fkin, Emile Heskey, worst player to play for England. Second touch always a sliding tackle!" A bit harsh, but a great delivery.
