They signed two of the best midfield talents of their generation in Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish and basically left them to rot. Even their own home grown talent in Phil Foden has also fallen away a little while there, although admittedly he's still a pretty good squad player for them in the league. Cole Palmer, despite not being selected for England, made the right move getting out of the place. He could have also ended up loan fodder had he stayed.

Palmer didnt exactly flourish at Chelsea this season. Foden, Palmer and Grealish won the quadrouple with City. [Post edited 2 Jul 21:39]

I’ve never quite got the Phil Foden ‘love in’ if i’m honest. Has bags of ability, but never seems to have enough consistent impact. Had one worldie season but not matched that since and seems to be a ‘system’ player in the classic Pep mould with patterns of play being drilled and limited indivuality. Be ibteresting of Maresca can get a consistent tune out of him. Palmer left because he’s more of a maverick disnt fit into Peps plans.. and without injuries (and managerial upheaval) this season would have been in the World cup squad without doubt.

If they are buying potential, then the price should be at least half of that. I know nothing or very little, but that price seems way over the top.

I agree to an extent as it is crazy money. But Spurs have just dropped £85m on Fernandes and Chelsea spent £107m on Enzo. Anderson is a better player than both of those so I guess it's somewhat in line with the market. £105m on Rice as a comparison seems an absolute bargain!

He's a great player, we'd kill for someone of that quality here.

Yeah! He's nothing special...... ha This Anderson deal I can't get my head around. He is good at breaking up play and running around, but his goal/assit/forward play contribution seems to be lacking. I cannot believe anyone has paid £116m (or whatever it is) for, essentially, a defensive midfielder. I suppose only time will tell.

To be fair we also made Jacob Murphy look like Yamal. I like Foden but I can't help but think what might've become of him at another club. While I hate the phrase 'over coached' he's been in that quite formulaic Pep side so long he's almost become robotic and looks to afraid to lose the ball. So much natural ability, I wish we'd see him throw a bit more caution to the wind and try to express himself a bit more. It seems to have been beaten out of him compared to the player that broke through.
