| Why is emersonn being pushed aside by some? 10:51 - Jul 29 with 2449 views | Axeldalai_lama | Seen him relegated to in the mix for general forward positions, or almost alongside Hirst as firmly back up as a striker. We're definitely needing another top level striker, but Emersonn is clearly here to play and be one main striker, I don't get the determination to relegate him as not in the mix. | | | | |
| Why is emersonn being pushed aside by some? on 10:54 - Jul 29 with 2408 views | Guthrum | His youth and lack of Prem experience. We are going to need more than one regular CF, a starter and off the bench. So it's not like he will get no game time. | |

True but he's older than Delap was when he signed and has more experience in a better league than the Championship (But yes we shouldn't really have gone into that season with Delap as our only Prem-level striker)

| Why is emersonn being pushed aside by some? on 11:05 - Jul 29 with 2233 views | Wright1 | Have you looked up his career before coming here? He has scored 8 goals across his entire career. He has only started 23 senior games ever (34 further appearances off the bench before you get excited about the goals to game ratio). Given he's taking a significant step up, it would be an impressive bit of scouting if he was suddenly ready to be a focal point in our attack. I can't pretend that i'm not concerned about the fee we paid. | | | |

Delap had, however, at least played in England. Emersonn hasn't yet. It just adds that bit of extra doubt into how well he is likely to perform. Not saying I think he isn't good enough, but those factors are why people are not sold on him being first choice as things stand. Of course, he may turn out to be brilliant. Or we might not find the more experienced man and have no choice but Emersonn to start up front.

GO'N plays forwards rather than lightweight tricky wingers doesn't he? I think we will see a change of formation, to 352/532 (with wing backs rather than wingers) or 433. We almost certainly won't try and take on Prem midfields with only two ball winners. Lots of hope for Egeli as a forward option, rather than a winger, too.

I'm not concerned about the fee, £25m isn't that much for a decent striker in the Prem nowadays.

In which case we would still need a more experienced forward alongside him. Emersonn and Walle Egeli together would be far too much of a risk, Emersonn and Hirst/Akpom not good enough.

I agree to an extent... but as a newly promoted side it represents a significant outlay for us. You have to imagine we only have 2 or 3 fees that size in us this summer and until we see him kick a ball in anger, I think it is understandable if people wonder if it could have been better spent.

I think we can stretch to bigger fees than that. Our financial/investment base is sound, we made a slim profit on the season in the Prem (a rare achievement at the lower end) and have had a season of parachute money. Wouldn't be overly surprised if we went as high as £35m for the right man. The ownership are pretty determined to make it work this time.

Egeli struggled last season ans Im expecting the young Brazilian to as well. We need goals from somewhere. So we need someone up front who can help provide that.
| Why is emersonn being pushed aside by some? on 12:46 - Jul 29 with 1614 views | Axeldalai_lama | Yeah, fair points all round more or less. Direction of travel seems good on his career though, played top flight Brazil, then Turkey, then a bigger money move to top flight in France where he's had a good season, and now an even bigger money move to us. Raw game statistics are possibly a bit lacking but the overall progression, improvement and facets of his game seem to be all heading for the top end. I suppose it's semantics but I see him as a very solid option and what we should be looking at, to play games and swap in and out with one big solid pro. Whereas I think some seem to view him as very much a down the order, won't do much yet absolute work in progress. I'm massively naive I'm sure, but excited about him and most of the transfers so far. Otherwise, what's the point?!! | | | |

Think the general expectation (both inside and outside the club) is that we've signed a good thing here but that we shouldn't be pinning our hopes on him being the real deal from day one. Don't think it is too outrageous for fans think it is a bold strategy to sign a player for a record fee (for the second summer window in a row) with that as your intention, but I'd see it as a bit of a statement of intent also (i.e. don't be surprised if pay more for players later this summer).
| Why is emersonn being pushed aside by some? on 13:42 - Jul 29 with 1237 views | PioneerBlue | He is Brazilian, he has football and a tough upbringing (i have no evidence for this) in his heart, he has reached his dream of PL football and now he will set the football world alight. We can look back on this thread when he has the golden boot. | |

| Why is emersonn being pushed aside by some? on 14:00 - Jul 29 with 1125 views | Smoresy | He must have been bought with a view to getting plenty of minutes, otherwise it would be a huge waste of resources - our most expensive signing ever. Clubs who are odds on to be relegated don't make purchases like that for their second or third year impact. But that may well mean envisaging 1500 minutes rather than 2500. | | | |

I also wouldn’t want to be pinning any hopes on Egeli. We’ve got to have a bit of an experienced dog up top if GON is going to use a classic number 9 type player.
