Not books, but podcasts 21:43 - Mar 22 with 3281 views | Coastalblue | Having an hour or so communte each way to and from work I've gotten into podcasts recently having got a bit bored with the radio not always in the mood for music. Lately I've listened to the first season of Serial, which I enjoyed, a lot of the Dan Snow History hits and have just started Dan Carlin's Hardcore History with his WW1 episodes, at two to three hours and above each episode I'm really enjoying these, and learning a lot. I also have Dad Wrote A Porno ready and waiting for when I need some light relief. Any reccomendations, anybody got any they are particularly enjoying? Edit: Blue Monday gets a spin too, don't know why but I wasn't expecting a lot from it and am really surprised in a good way. [Post edited 22 Mar 2018 21:45]

Not books, but podcasts on 06:29 - Mar 23 with 3163 views | Johnny_Boy | Was on a long road trip & a friend put a few of these on: Revisionist History - Malcolm Gladwell The episode 'Halleluah', concentrated on Leonard Cohen. If your not a fan, it's still an interesting listen. It discusses being born a genius or eventually becoming one. Answer Me This is a good podcast that's been going for years.

Tried listening to the QI mob one & it was far too smug for my liking. Couldn't get past their self indulgent laughing of their own jokes.
Not books, but podcasts on 06:34 - Mar 23 with 3156 views | Mullet | I've been listening to Dan Carlin for a couple of years, his last one was hard to get through during a week of commuting right after breakfast! If you haven't and can go back and get the ones he's still got for free or selling cheaply they're epics. History on Fire is even better IMO and I always suggest these. RadioLab and their spinoffs about the American legal system I find fascinating. Also the Radio 4 stuff like in Our Time and Natural Histories (which are less frequent) are excellent. Thinking Allowed if you like Sociology stuff is top notch too.

Gladwell's thesis in Outliers about 'genius' is quite compelling. Basically, it's a combination of very hard work and being in the right place/area of activity at the right time.

Not books, but podcasts on 12:13 - Mar 23 with 3083 views | itfcjoe | I listen to loads of podcasts - have them on 2x speed which I am so used to now everything else sounds like it is in slow motion if I put it back to 1x speed! Worth a try and takes a few days to get used to but doubles what you can listen to - only works in headphones though, as soon as through a speaker sounds like the chipmunks Below are my most recommended ones Sport: At home with Colin Murray - various interviews but generally good 5 Lives World Football Phone In - weekly phone in with the excellent Tim Vickery from Up All Nioght. Football based but you elarn a lot about everything Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong guy - I really like this, even Robbie Savage Elis James Feast of Football - Welsh football podcast but guests Danny gabbidon and iwan Roberts give a really good insight into life as a pro footballer The Football Ramble - twice weekly reveiw of UK football The Magic Sponge with Jimmy Bullard - a Bit banter heavy but I like hearing stories about 90s footballers getting up to all sorts True crime/stories etc Butterfly Effect with John Ronson - looking at the porn industry but goes out in a few directions and really interesting This American life - just brilliant Untold - The Daniel morgan Murder - investigation into police corruption in London where a guys brother was killed and the Mets role in this Beyond Reasonable Doubt - Story about a death/murder in USA which has always been suspicous. General interest/Politics Desert Island Discs - always a good listen The Modern Mann - Split into 3 sections, Zeitgeist, a long interview with someone random which is always good and a sex info. Really good The Political party - Comedian Matt Forde interviewing politicians in front of a live audience, always interesting seeing a human side to them Slow Burn - A history of Watergate Revisionist History with Malcom Gladwell - my favourite

Not books, but podcasts on 12:41 - Mar 23 with 3061 views | Superfrans | The Adam Buxton podcast is the best. Just great. Very funny and he interviews interesting people all the time, usually comics or (mostly British) film directors etc. Kermode & Mayo do the best movie podcast - this week's films reviewed etc. If you can listen to Owen Jones for 30 seconds without wanting to punch the wall (I can, thankfully, being a raving lefty) Agitpod is a really good, left-leaning political podcast hosted by OJ and the female OJ (and rather lovely) Ellie Mae O'Hagen. And, of course, Desert Island Discs is the best thing ever.

I have issues with Agitpod, I quite enjoy the podcast but every now and again the feed seems to corrupt and download loads of music podcasts on that feed - Paul van Dyk's NYC Sessions etc. it happens every week or so and I have to delete them all

That's really weird. I usually listen via Spotify tbh, so never have any issues. Have you mentioned to them? Sounds like the channel you are listening through though to be honest.

I'm guessing the Dan Carlin one you were referring to there is the painfotainment one? I just finished the Celtic holocaust and then that came up next on my journey home, sounds like it's going to be tough going. I'll dig out history on fire cheers, Thinking allowed is something I quite often catch in the car on R4

Not books, but podcasts on 20:01 - Apr 9 with 2837 views | soupytwist | For politics the Talking Politics podcast hosted by a Cambridge academic covers a wide range of subjects and is a good listen. I've also just listened to a couple of the Unfiltered with James O'Brien, they were interesting but it depends on the guest I suppose. John Ronson's series called the Butterfly Effect is very good, as long as you don't mind discussions of the porn business. There's also a series I listened to called Containers which covers the history of containerised shipping and is more interesting than that description makes it sound. I also listen to one called Econtalk which is hosted by an American economics professor called Russ Roberts, it's weekly and it covers all sorts of subjects. He hosts it very well and you always learn something from it.
