Ok , so Town lost again ...,, 11:53 - Dec 27 with 1897 viewsArnieM

I’m not sure why there is this implosion of belief on here?
Nothings new. Nothings changed. We all know the squad is desperately weak and not if a Championship standard. The lads give their all but as a team simply aren’t good enough.

There’s a very real chance ( some would say cast iron case), that we will finally be relegated this season. Let’s be honest here. McCarthy did do wonders, but a big part of me can’t help but feel his tenure merely papered over the cracks that have been at ITFC since we emerged from Administration. In truth we still live in the shadow of this financial catastrophe. Without Evans interventions we would have been gone a decade or more ago. He’s not prepared to to try and
“ match” the ludicrous sums of money awash in the Championship that is down to the many headed hydra that Sky tv is in the game. Can’t say I blame him really. Would you?

So, where do we go from here?

Well we finally have a manager that in all honesty “ fits” with the old Ipswich Town ethos, of bringing youth forward into the first team and playing attractive , on the deck, pass and move football. We can already see this starting to happen in the remains of a decimated squad that has poor levels of skill if no little endeavour. So...

Give Paul Lambert the time to rebuild, properly, albeit in League One.

The Club has waited too long to get experience through the door this season IMO, and missed the boat waiting for this Jan window. They should have got a couple of experienced heads in on short term contracts or pay as you play from the unattached players list Lambert first took control.

Under PL’s leadership I think we finally have a chance to rebuild from the bottom up and will actually see what we’ve all craved for. A young team of talented, Town developed, players with a sprinkling of experience amongst them, playing the kind of football we used to be associated with. A team we can be proud of and a Club republican-united.

I agree relegation is never a good thing. Financially it will be a disaster . But other Clubs have been there before and survived to return stronger. Case in point , sit just 45 miles up the A140of for anyone at PR recently will have seen SUFC play is off the park. It can happen at Ipswich too. We just need to remain totally behind the manager / Club.

It’s as they say, the darkest just before the dawn. Are we all aboard?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Alarm bells rang for me on Hurst when it became apparent that his knowledge of the top two divisions was particularly weak. We're paying the price for that now.

I maintain we are not relegated yet. I think that is part of the issue. People still have hope and results like yesterday drain that somewhat.

However, we dropped all 3 points yesterday the same as if we had lost a battling 4-3 albeit we would feel a lot better about that. QPR are on decent form and a side we never get anything from away. A point would have been a bonus. Boro are on poor form and we desperately need a point at least there.

How we do with this transfer window is massive if we are to stay up. The gap to safety is large but there is long enough left still that a big turnaround in results can still do it. It needs a big turnaround and soon though.

The question for hurst at point should have been 'why have Waghorn and Garner sought out moves rather than play for you? Is there something you're not telling us? They were both perfectly happy a couple of weeks ago.'

I can't be the only one who had yesterday down as a loss was I?

I mean, this is still the same team who have sat at the bottom of the league all season, it's not suddenly going to become consistently competitive against those higher in the league. QPR are 7th. The way some were talking before the game and after, it's like we played a team just above us.

For me, 0-3 was both flattering for QPR but also unflattering. I didn't feel they outplayed us, we just didn't really hurt them. First goal comes from Error, second another header but a lovely ball in and third was a Waghorn type goal which we don't have in our locker.

Missing ingredients for me, no proper strikers, and no set piece specialist. Sort these out and we stand a chance. But who can we get......... that's the issue

Is PL the right man to rebuild us (even if he will get support, which is far from certain)? What’s he done since his time at Narwich. Genuine question as the only thing I’m aware of is him bombing at Villa.

I'd quibble about needing a point, I think what we need from Boro is a performance and/or result that gives us hope going into the huge Millwall/Rotherham double header.

On a side note one of the main reasons we could do with a striker signed before new Year is the boost and hope it would give the crowd to see Gestede (or whoever) on the bench for the Millwall game.

We're not relegated yet, but nothing from our performances over the past 5-6 months says to me we have a chance of avoiding the drop.

A draw would have been a decent result. A loss not the end of the world.

However, the errors and gifts of goals we gave them coupled with a general sense of 'giving up' yesterday puts a wholly different slant on the loss, that's the worrying thing from yesterday.

Quite clearly the league table has us down as certain for relegation.

The redeeming factor is that we only have to get back to last season's form to stay up this.

The scary part of that is that we need to replace Waghorn, Garner, McGoldrick, Carter-Vickers and Celina in the next month (whilst picking up points at the rate we did last season) and it all to click immediately.

So, we need half a new team and for it to gel, all as early as possible in Jan....

That's the scary thing isn't it

IF we have to wait until the end of Jan, that's 5 league games to play with this squad.
Say another 3/4 weeks of 'Gelling' we'll have about 10 league games left to get out of the zone.
