I second that, very sad news. I used to have them playing non stop on cassette in my first car, a red mark 1 Ford Escort.
A real feel good band.

Bad news.

Saw them back in the day and also in the early 2000's at The Railway

Very sad, loved The Beat and the Specials when I were a young lad.

On a different note but similar era, the news was on in the background last night after the football, I was working and not paying too much attention, was there something on about Quadrophenia? I definitely saw some clips out of the corner of my eye.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Was he really that young? I remember he was sharing duties with his son, Ranking Junior, when I started seeing them.

Senior singled out me and a girl I was on a first date with at a gig during Hands Off- turned out that relationship was very deep and lasted a very long time, so that song will always hold special significance for me.

According to Wiki he was 56 - which means when I saw him as a 15 year old he was only 17, my brain cannot deal with this.

I had a similar thought, though I'm a couple of years younger than you. When I saw the news I just assumed he was in his mid to late 60's, getting scary all these people of our generation popping off?

Yes, that sounds far too young to me, but the papers are also reporting that as his age.

Such sad news.

I'm also very surprised he was as young as that.

Could it be possible he was born in 56 and news sources have got mixed up?

Wiki confirms his age and despite all the criticism Wiki is usually accurate. Maybe he was an admirer of Finidi George.

When I saw them at The Railway, Roger was doing the singing and Rogers son was doing the Roger bit. After the gig they all went to an after party upstairs and forgot to tell Sax. Sax then spent ages trying to buy a brandy but couldn't get the staffs attention. I mentioned to a bar lady who Sax was and she nipped upstairs to tell the rest of the band - and they subsequently retrieved him.

I never did, wanted to but too young to be allowed then, I did go to Mods Mayday 99 though which was like a kind of 20th anniversay gig, did you go to that?

No this one was a venue in Kentish Town if I remember correctly. I got a bit wasted and my memory is very hazy.
I have distant relatives involved with the band Small World and used to end up going to stuff I hadn't expected to.
