Feel sorry for Maurizio Sarri, could he do much more at Chelsea? 07:45 - May 30 with 1975 views | christiand | 3rd in the EPL behind a rampant City and Liverpool, runners up in the League Cup losing on penalties to City, then comfortably winning the Europa League last night against Arsenal and still has the threat of the sack having over him. Some Chelsea fans want him out, but what more could Sarri do? Surely, that's the best he could've done with the side he has and the opposition he is up against? Just don't see the need for Chelsea to continually keep changing their manager season on season when the goal posts keep getting moved? [Post edited 30 May 2019 7:46]

Hmm that sounds familiar? Nevertheless, they weren't happy under Mourinho (second time round), Conte (towards the end of his reign) and now Sarri. They can't all play a brand of football that Chelsea fans don't like surely? Something wrong with that club when these top managers aren't deemed good enough or play the right type of football.

They grew up watching Terry hoof it to Drogba didn't they. Cleary having the ball camped in the opposition's half and cutting through teams with quick incisive play must be very traumatic for them!

Feel sorry for Maurizio Sarri, could he do much more at Chelsea? on 09:13 - May 30 with 1477 views | WarkTheWarkITFC | We essentially now have six clubs that are supported almost exclusively by plastic fans who picked a team to support based on being good and want to be able to brag at the expense of the plastic fans of the other five clubs. Of course every club has genuine fans that have supported for decades. But the big clubs have 5 million Twitter followers, of which only 50,000 - 100,000 will even go to the games. No doubt genuine fans that go or have gone understand the complexities of only one team being able to win the league, the FA Cup or the Champions League. But those fans are drowned out, with their logical and reasoned comments washed away by the others who demand that everyone is sacked every six months just because they are not doing what they want them to be doing. Abramovic came in, spent loads of money and Chelsea were the best team in England and Europe at various times. Now Sheikh Mansoor has done the same on a higher level and now Chelsea aren't as good. But all those who nailed their colours to the Chelsea mast in the mid 2000's are stuck being annoyed that they are in the same position that they themselves put every other club in. Meanwhile, the likes of Middlesbrough, Portsmouth, Ipswich and Doncaster just get on with supporting our clubs without the threat of the plastic invasion. Lovely.

Although Town have a lot of fans who want ME out and any new owner who will spend millions (billions) to get us to the prem and all we would get are those same plastic fans. #becarefulwhatyouwishfor

Hazard is clearly off and it’s obvious he needs 2 or 3 more players to truly get them playing the way he wants, so likely they’ll regress, at which point his sacking is inevitable

Heard a really interesting point made on the radio this morning. When most teams hire a new manager it is because the old one failed. Of course, some managers leave to go to a bigger club, but generally not those at the biggest clubs. So when a team like Chelsea sacks their manager it is because they are not where they want to be. To expect a manager to come in and immediately make changes that improve the situation to the level required, dramatically required in some cases, whilst your rivals are already settled and you have to have this squad upheaval, change of system and potentially philosophy and expect the manager to immediately succeed is nuts. These managers should be given several years. You've seen what the guy did at Napoli and how close he ran Juve. With the sort of backing Chelsea have he can clearly make them a major player. But how on earth can you bring him in on the basis of knowing what he can do and then when he doesn't do it instantly you want to get rid?

Lol. I'm not sure we can compare a manager who had been here nearly 6 years, playing turgid football and calling the fans numbskulls, with a bloke who has just arrived and delivered a major European trophy. The harshest we've been on any manager was John Duncan. It wasn't great but was nowhere near as bad as people suggest. He just suffered by being along a few years after we were the best team in Europe and we'd gone from Wark, Beattie and Mills to Harbey, Hill and Gleghorn.

Feel sorry for Maurizio Sarri, could he do much more at Chelsea? on 09:32 - May 30 with 1420 views | ElephantintheRoom | Why? He's a short-term mercenary 'earning' millions and will be showered with millions when the newly Israeli owner gets rid of him. Then get paid yet more millions in a top job back in Italy - which he might actually enjoy. I'd argue that Chelsea have their managerial strategy spot on. A rich man's Watford if you like. By constantly getting rid of interchangeable managers they have survived and flourished as a top four force and won trophies along the way. Compared to all the others - Liverpool (at least until Saturday). Arsenal., Spurs and Man U they are in rude health with no staleness. The real question of course is the morality ethics of running and supporting a team based on highly questionable wealth - but that is hardly unique to Chelski.

A large section of our fanbase turned on a manager who from the outside was over-performing on the pitch. The reason sighted was due to his style Chelsea fans have turned on a manager who from the outside is over-performing on the pitch. The reason sighted is due to his style Ipswich fans also turned on the above managers replacement after 10 games, and indeed some have turned on his replacement too

He's clearly not a 'short term mercenary'. An absolutely ridiculous statement. His whole ethos is based on long-term building wherever he's been from the lower leagues to present. The problem lies with Chelsea, the owner & their fans. I've lost count the number of managers that have been brought into the club to oversee a long-term platform to build on and each time the players have simply revolted & forced the managers out. He is very well respected in Italy for all the work he's done there. He really doesn't need all the grief he's getting at the moment. [Post edited 30 May 2019 9:54]

The point I would make though is we turned on Mick after 5 years. Sarri's football may not be great, but he may be playing that way until he can mould the team into his own. He's not even been there a year.

'Over-performing' is always a little subjective. You could easily suggest the season beforehand he was under-performing against the likes of Millwall & PNE. Not a pop, just trying to balance things out.

If the Chelsea hierarchy brought Sarri in for the sole purpose of sweeping all the major trophies in his first 2 campaigns, then they clearly never did their due-diligence on the man. Isn't this his first trophy in his 20 odd years of management or something?

The club has finished 3rd, won the Europa League and reached a domestic final in his FIRST season. They need to stick by him, get through this transfer ban and allow him to rebuild properly in the following transfer windows. His Napoli side ended up playing some of the best football in Europe last year.

Getting rid of him would be even more insane given the transfer ban. A new manager comes in, loses Hazard (their best player by a mile) and a few others, can't replace them and they then have to improve on what Sarri did. Never going to happen. So that manager will be out next summer too.

Sarri is the type of manager that I think would be the key to Newcastle's resurgence, or maybe even Manchester United.

"At least a third were firmly anti-Hurst"!!?? That's not true. Maybe some doubts were expressed but it was a half-dozen games and the signs that we were toothless and a little clueless before any serious issues with the manager were raised by that number of people. In fact, I think the anti-Hurst sentiment only really emerged when people started to wonder if he'd lost the plot/was struggling in the job with his new approach against Norwich.

A third was a slight exaggeration but a big chunk of this board was very anti hurst very quickly. Definitely before he even got to the Norwich game where it was generally felt he was really losing the plot. There were plenty of calls for him to go and many off field concerns about him in mid August
