Oxford pub recommendations 12:09 - Jan 13 with 1337 viewsunstableblue

Pretty slim picking near the ground.

I've had the Oxford Retreat and Watermans Arms recommended near the station. Its a quick £8 cab up to ground after a bite and beer for those going by train.

Bus back after game will be fun!?!

Poll: How many points will Town get from 5 (Wat, Boro, Hull, Cov, Hudd)?

If you have time then you may as well head up towards the city centre, as the bus to the stadium stops all the way up High Street and beyond. Good variety off either side of the road. I'll be in either the Bear or the Turf, so you know where to avoid!

Oxford Retreat is close. George Street has various different pubs (4 Candles, Wig and Pen, few others), the Red Lion is just off George Street. Within walking distance of the train station. There's always cabs near the cinema which is on George Street.

If you get in early, go have a venture into Jericho or down the Cowley Road.

Thanks Rob. Useful. Especially the cab rank - it looks like biblical rain on Tuesday night. So less bus the better.

Do you know the Punter?

Be aware that it might be busy because of the game. There's another cab point about 5 minutes walk from the cinema. Map at the bottom.

Never been to the punter so can't comment.

Central Oxford is full of great pubs.

The Bear, The Turf, White Horse etc are my favourites.

Easy to get it if taking train. Not that easy if taking car although you could get the bus into town and back again - about 15 mins.

Turf is great!

A little out the way, but I like The Cape of Good Hope just as you get to Cowley Road.

What about The Catherine Wheel in Sandford - which strangely appears as "The Blue Elephant" if you click on the website? https://blueelephantrestaurant.com

It was called The Pub Oxford in my day - many an hour sat in there watching Soccer Saturday.

Jericho is awesome - Victoria and Jericho Tavern are top drinking holes.

Oxford is a great city.
