I bet they’ve already started. It May give certain elements of the press a stick to beat the families with when the actions start rolling in, but I doubt it’ll stop any (as Lucan says, I don’t think it can). £60k isn’t much for a life is it?

Look at it in the context of the charmingly named 'death in harness' benefit payable in many pension schemes, ie two years salary. It will be nteresting to find out if this will be additional to that for those in the NHS who already are entitled to a death in harness payment, or whether some swift rebadging of part of an existing payment will go on.

The Government are paying the families... on 23:55 - Apr 27 with 1065 views | BlueBadger | For context here, the government is offering slightly less than 2 years of my salary for my life to my dependents, should the Entirely Adequate PPE That Is In Plentiful Supply somehow fail to protect me. In context, less than what Mrs Badger would receive should I die on the job(stop it) in normal circumstances. [Post edited 28 Apr 2020 0:06]

Death in Service is presently 2 years' salary as a lump sum. No idea if either are taxed. Average NHS wage is around £30K a year.

Ah, but there's a portion of the Highly Desirable Solid Gold Public Sector Pension as well. A half or a third, I can't remember what it is these days.

Surely this should be a payment on top of what the families would normally receive given that is already a contractual agreement? SB

The Government are paying the families... on 09:25 - Apr 28 with 865 views | lowhouseblue | genuine question - i haven't seen an answer in the press. if there have been 80 deaths of NHS workers is that a statistically higher rate than in the general population given the demographic characteristics (age, health etc) of the nhs workforce?
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

That would take some working out - there is a disproportionate number of 'at risk' ethnic groups in the NHS and their jobs are slightly more 'at risk' than most at the moment.... but back in January? A comparison with bus drivers supermarket check out assistants and council care workers rushing around with 30mins alloted time per patient (including travel time) might be revealing.
