The league cup (I'll always call it that but) 14:55 - Sep 6 with 3788 views | gtsb1966 | How many would hold their hands up and say it is time it was scrapped. Hardly any clubs or fans are interested and for the most part attendances are abysmal. Personally I'd get rid.
The league cup (I'll always call it that but) on 15:08 - Sep 6 with 3743 views | Marshalls_Mullet | Nope, we should still embrace it. Getting to a semi final is just about our only highlight if the past 15 years.

The league cup (I'll always call it that but) on 15:09 - Sep 6 with 3738 views | J2BLUE | Nah. It's crap, admittedly, but I wouldn't scrap it. Who would it serve by scrapping it? The Premier League clubs who have massive squads anyway. It would take the revenue stream away from league one and two clubs. It would also give fans of smaller clubs less chance to visit the big grounds. If this wasn't such a strange time Salford fans would be going to a competitive game at Goodison Park. We might as well keep it. With the lack of a decent reserve league it gives clubs a chance to rotate and play their youngsters etc.

I would hazard a guess that most teams that go out in the early rounds actually lose money.

To be fair most clubs lose money playing league football, we could scrap that too.

True but the league is everyone's bread and butter. Always has been and always will be. The league cup just adds more problems.

Football clubs play football matches, it's not a problem.

How so? I'm sure almost every game generates enough income for travel costs. I doubt many smaller clubs have players on contracts with appearance/goal bonuses etc and even if they do they don't have to play them. Then there's prize money for winning, potential tv, potential big money spinning games. I reckon over the long term it's a net gain for every club.

Let's just say first round of the league cup. We get Stevenage at home say. We'd lose money. You could add a lot of teams to that fixture and a lot of clubs who would be similar to ourself.

How? Lets say 7500 fans at an average price of £7.50 per ticket. That's £56,250. I think all costs like stewards, printing tickets etc are deducted and then any profit is shared between the two clubs. Costs would be minimal for that sort of game so you'd think there would be at least £30,000 left over at the end to be split after the EFL's cut. £15,000 would pay their travel costs and we'd get £15,000. It's peanuts but I really don't see how we'd make a loss.

Completely agree. This narrative comes from clubs that play in Europe who don’t want the fixtures. A club in division three should want a part of any cup going.

The league cup (I'll always call it that but) on 19:55 - Sep 6 with 3424 views | Nthsuffolkblue | The attendances yesterday were appalling. The same argument about lack of serious intent from clubs could be levelled at the FA Cup. Although, as teams progress to the later stages they start to take it more seriously. If the League Cup is scrapped, so should all historical records from it be!

But we never get anywhere in the cups ... oh ... I see your point ... maybe a good idea after all ... plus after the first round is up in all of them we wouldn't have to worry about our season any more.
