It appears that’s the only way of playing, which is allowed, in the modern game. 4 shots on target per game, doesn’t really suggest a system of play that is working particularly effectively.

Added to which, probably one or two of those "on target" efforts are exactly that - and no more than that i.e. a finale to an attacking move that didn't quite get there, but ended with a runner stretching to connect and producing a powder-puff effort that the goalie stoops to collect.

Modern football in a way has lost sight of many aspects that makes the game exciting and interesting. This focus on the importance of possession, I do understand to a point because if we've got the ball the opposition can't hurt us, but surely it's what you do with it that's crucial? Pep's Barcelona or his Man City sides were/are wonderful with the ball as they had/have world class players to execute this objective and game plan. When you're expecting inferior players to do the same or coaches that haven't got that same level of appreciation of this passing ethos, that's when it loses it's appeal and impact.

Exactly. We move the ball so slowly and aimlessly, just get your team back behind the ball in two defensive lines, then we've got problems. We've consistently shown we really struggle to break teams down when faced with this set up. We aren't a frightening team to play against, if anything you'd probably really enjoy playing against us.

I'd like to see us play the way Crewe did against us. Exciting attacking football.

You're right, almost every team wants to play the same way nowadays - go back 20-od years and different teams would have their own style which played to their strengths. Now everyone has to pass the ball all the way from goalkeeper into the oppositions net. Part of me would love it if a team like Wycombe got into the PL (not as improbable as it sounds), just to see how other teams coped with their style. Going back to us, if you watch the EFL highlights every week, there's aways plenty of 'screamers' scored from outside the area....when is the last time we scored from 20-30 yards out? We seem determined to pass it into the net rather than take a chance.

In a season where promotion is so important, I'd rather see us beat them 1-0 like we did.
