Interesting stat from Watson in the EADT 12:56 - May 2 with 2801 viewsEnigma_Blue

"For me, Vincent-Young, Downes and Norwood are the squad's best three players.
And this was only the ninth time in two seasons that they have all started a game together.
Town's record over those nine games reads W7 D2"

Should those 3 be the spine that Cook builds his squad around next season? Or is that proof that those players cannot be relied upon to stay fit?

It’s difficult as the team as a whole looked decent over nine games. At the start of the season we won seven and lost two in the league; keep up that record and we would have been easily promoted. What I’m trying to say is, whilst it looks good on paper, it’s too small a sample to agree with it.

I think they’re definitely up there among our best players.

But think Watson’s using far too small a sample size. That sample includes the flurry of wins in the first season in League One where we won games because everybody was taking chances. But we weren’t convincing and just looked like the opposition weren’t up to speed.

So I don’t see the cause/effect in the same way. Indeed our problem is that the side that did have the best record just wasn’t good enough the rest of the time.

Definitely having those players can help us improve. But for me it’s still a collective problem we need to solve, rather than thinking individuals are the answer.

I feel sure KVY and Downes (unless sold) will be a big part of the team going forward. Norward more likely to be an impact sub. To get promoted, especially if we are targeting automatic promotion, will need a more prolific and less injury-prone front man. Interesting stat though and does go to show that injuries to key players have hampered us big time this season.

One thing that stat highlights is their significant injury problems.

I hope they do stay fit, but basing your team around a trio of players who have managed to play together 9 times in 2 years is a big risk.

To add, Norwood has been involved in 10 of PC's 15 games and only lost on 3 occasions.

Downes 8 out of 15 games, only lost 2 games

KVY 4 games 1 loss

I agree. Do you think in that case we would be better off trying to offload them to free up wages or hold on to them in the hope that their injury record improves going forward?

That's also interesting but I would say in the case of KVY 4 games is far to small a sample to base any kind d of argument on.

Yeah tbf I wasn;t gonna mentions KVY's, it's just coz he was in the OP I thought best to pop him in,

But Downes one for me is very important, he is so important to us as a unit, he performs the roles of 2 midfielders, when he's out, we miss him alot.

Yes Norwood is much more valuable to us than many care to admit, perhaps because he's acted like a bit of a t**t on a number of occasions.
