As per my post a few weeks back, the border to India should have been closed ages before (including the transiting through Turkey) although even then some cases would have already been in the UK. The key now is that the infected people follow the rules and keep the infection within those household clusters. I'm not hugely confident about that, especially up north where it seems to be moving towards exponential growth in places like Bolton. SB

Yes I remember you calling it on that thread. So frustrating... instead of stopping the source, now we fire-fight locally, after a year of various lockdowns.

Some of us have been calling for proper enforced controls on entry to the country for the entire pandemic. Once again we've risked it and not it's looking dangerous. Australia (most parts) have kept cases low to the point of normal life for the majority of the time but no we need to allow people to come in and trust them to isolate at home despite poll after poll telling us most people don't bother.

How odd. It appears people may criticise their government for not putting India on the red list earlier but you don’t afford the same privilege to people living in Scotland. That rather bigoted isn’t it? Btw https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/scotland-losing-control-over- As for forelock tugging? Is was inevitable that as soon as Johnson dithered over the India variant, it would take control and fcuk uo the easing of lockdown. My first minister similarly didn’t act quickly enough. She put India on the red list on the same day as Johnson did in England. April 19. I have a business that has just opened after spending the last 4 months closed and nearly 9 months out of the last 13 unable to operate. I want this lockdown ended. My daughter’s education and mental health has severed severely over the last year, and because of my First Minister’s dithering I’ll probably be closed again next month. So you can fcuk right off with the forelock tugging. [Post edited 14 May 2021 16:39]

Cheers mate. A 14 year older girl who was already struggling with her sexuality over the months leading to the lockdown. Life hasn’t been much fun for her. Cases more than doubling in the last week. A higher number of cases than Moray. Moray is the only Scottish region not going to level 2 on Monday because if the numbers. Can’t see how Glasgow cannot join Moray as staying in level 3 or worse. As Stokie said at the time, it was obviously we should have acted immediately. Edit. Just breaking. Glasgow staying in level 3. [Post edited 14 May 2021 17:00]

Do you ever bother to check first, or even concern yourself that you have some idea of what is being discussed Or is it as I imply...out you come desperate to defend your betters ? The problem has been caused by England and Scotland having different levels of safety. Scotland required passengers from all countries to quarantine. England only required passengers from its red list of 31 countries to quarantine. Which left Scotland wide open to passengers from then being able to travel on to Scotland without any need for checks and to quarantine. So to try to equate the measures taken by Sturgeon with those of Johnson (when set against te above) clearly shows what your motivation was, and still is.

Because he will try and sell it to everyone as a Brexit benefit as he desperately tries to salvage his reputation as the impact of his actions over the last 5 years becomes clear. If you think Boris is motivated by what he thinks is best for the people he represents, in places like Hartlepool, rather than by what he thinks is best for Boris, then you must be unbelievably naive.

It’s just mad, I can’t get my head round why they didn’t do it. Even if there are spurious, brexit-related, motivations for Boris, they wouldn’t apply to Sturgeon. How can they all have been so incompetent? It’s negligence, pure and simple.

Scotland imposed quarantine requirements for air passengers. England did not, so passengers could simply fly into England then travel onto Scotland, which is how it is thought the Indian variant got to Scotland Putting India on the red list AFTER Johnson had allowed the variant into the UK is where the fault lies.

3 weeks before he added India, he added Pakistan and Bangladesh. They had about a 50th of the cases of India at the time too, but we weren’t trying to negotiate a trade deal with them so we kept India open. All utterly predictable again.

To clarify "15 January 2021 - Suspension of all travel corridors 'Following the identification of a new Covid variant in Brazil, the government suspends all international travel corridors. This means all passengers travelling into Scotland from outside the Common Travel Area will have to self-isolate for ten days. They also require a valid negative test." "15 February 2021 - Hotel quarantine introduced 'All passengers travelling into Scotland from outside the Common Travel Area are told they must book and pay for managed isolation in quarantine hotels from this date. These measures are more stringent than the UK Government’s, which require anyone travelling to the UK from a country on the “red list” to quarantine in a hotel." These measures did not apply in England, meaning the free for all that allowed air passengers to enter England unchecked most certainly were the cause of infection in Scotland.' When others blamed Johnsons failings, and my linking a deal Johnson was trying to cobble together with India being areas for delay, the righty indignation cranked up even further. However a few hours later the Mail now has The figures saw Mr Johnson accused of being 'reckless, misguided and dangerous' for not shutting Britain's borders with India earlier. The Prime Minister was criticised last night for not closing borders with India early enough, with the country only added to the UK's travel 'red list' late last month, despite earlier concerns over transmission of the fast-growing variant. Some have suggested that Mr Johnson was keen to keep relations strong with India, having planned a visit - which subsequently had to be cancelled - as part of efforts to negotiate a post-Brexit trade deal." So was GB's knee-jerk bleat borne of ignorance or wilful intent ? Knave or Joker ?

And without wanting to appear incredibly non pc this is why it’s here and spreading in the first place. Infected people entering the country from India into areas of highly populated ethnic communities where they are still meeting in their large family and community groups and not following the quarantine guidelines
