I'm inclined to agree. Don't Banksy's works tend to be authenticated a lot quicker as well? I've never known the is it/isn't it debate to drag on for so long. Similarly, he's never done something on this scale before either, has he? Timing seems awfully coincidental given that Yarmouth/Lowestoft are currently angling to be the next UK Capital of Culture...

Re your last paragraph I thought the same! Went out at lunchtime to have a look at a couple in Lowestoft, they are really good. Particularly like the seagull swooping for the chips. Even if it turns out not to be Banksy, they are great pieces and it’s certainly created a buzz which can only be positive [Post edited 10 Aug 2021 16:04]

I think there must be some way in which they are deemed genuine. If you look at the other ones that have happened in the course of the last couple of years, they're usually confirmed as being the real deal within 24/48hrs and very swiftly covered with perspex or something similar.

They usually posts up a video of themselves painting it, or at least I recall reading something along those lines.

A friend knows him. The friend was given some prints ages ago - recently found them and attempted to sell them without authentication. So the gallery said they needed it. But it's nearly impossible to get hold of him. He constantly changes phones. You have to wait for him to ring you. Eventually they hooked up and Banksy wrote to the gallery to confirm. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'd heard he was due to do the mural being planned for the back of the north stand. He's from Brizzle area so Ashton knows him en all.

A Banksy expert on Look norwich last night said the bus shelter one and the seagulls were good enough to be genuine, probably not the rest of them though.
