Feels weird supporting ITFC at the moment 01:11 - Sep 13 with 1377 viewsHciwspi

Such massive changes on and off the pitch, have led to a squad of players, with the exception of Bonne, who have no connection or affinity with the club or area and I for one am struggling to show them any loyalty (or affection) as it were.

I'm sure (and hope) this will change in the future as things improve but at the moment it's all a little odd. And Saturday certainly hasn't helped in this regard. I don't think I've witnessed many performances that were worse than that.

They don't seem to care about the situation, or have the club at heart.

In many ways it feels like nothing’s changed from the last couple of years; we still have a bloated squad unable to compete in Division 3.

It’s criminal what’s happened to our club.

Yes they are all new, but they are better. (On paper anyway) It is down to the manager and his staff to get the best out of them. If they start winning consistently you will soon class them as our players. Homegrown players are great, if they are good enough, but it has been a while since any have been. There's no excuses for Cook or indeed the players now, they have had their time to gel (shouldn't be needed) so now is the time to deliver results. I hope Cook can do this, but if not soon, then we need to change.

It was always likely that this was going to take time on and off the pitch.

I’m not comparing us to Man City but it took them time to put together a side to challenge for the league albeit at a much higher level.

I have always thought play offs would be the realistic target this year with the amount of change but unfortunately a lot of fans have just seen 19 (signings, some good ones on paper) and thought we would stroll the league. There is so much more to it, players settling in, being happy in the area. For us to think that 19 signings would all be hits was naive as well, if we can get 13 of them to be good signings for us then we will have done well.

If we don’t go up this year, then next year is when I would expect us to challenge for the league with a full preseason with the majority of this players and a few addictions, it’s about building something here now that is sustainable. I would rather we went up when we were ready than too early.

'Gelling' as an excuse only goes so far.

It does not justify our current form and a 5-2 home defeat.

These excuses have to stop.

The way you feel (which I’m with to a degree) can also be flipped for the squad.

They’ve not got to know each other particularly well yet, they have no affinity with local area, they’ve not yet shared any great moments with fans (partly their fault for not supplying) and that love for the club, fans and each other just isn’t quite there yet.

It genuinely does take more than a couple of months to build relationships that mean something.

Bonne was the only one showing any real emotion at the end, I'll give you that, but I always think it's an easy accusation to make when you're losing games.

You'd be much more up for giving them loyalty and affection if we were winning games.

If the Gamechanger ownership is a 90 minute game of football, we've only seen the first five minutes. We've got to be patient and not get too down when it looks like we might not romp to the title.

We're feeling it the worst because we've been through 20 years of adversity one way or another and they haven't. Few of these have had that much negativity during their careers to date, at least for a prolonged spell, and it's probably going to be a case of sitting tight until things do 'click'. It's maybe something they have to experience before we get the togetherness we're seeking. The trouble is I think we all accepted that would be the case but that in the meantime we'd at least pick up the odd win and stay mid tableish!

We have a high % of players who Cook has worked with before. Doesn't he know how to get the best out of them already? Shouldn't he have known if they could play his system? Should he not have known if they complimented each other? I am sorry, but I am done with excuses, time for results. If Cook is as good as many of us think (thought) then the time for results is now. I still hope he can turn it around, but no more excuses. Time for Cook to deliver or go.

Doesn't feel weird to me. Dross business as usual.

Just cursed.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Not cursed. Years of promises only to be followed by excuse after excuse. With the backing Cook has been given, he needs to deliver results. Time for excuses is over, time for results and quick.

I think the deja vu is strong though. Everyone (including pundits and fans of other clubs) when we first came down and last season to be honest was saying 'Ipswich has got one of, if not the best squad in this league and should be winning it or right up there.' The same is being said now.

You have to earn that title not just assume it. And we are simply not doing that at the moment. I think we all dismiss to how much of a mental game football is. And on Saturday the mental fragility of the players on the pitch was there for all to see. When things went against them in the second half they folded. There was no fight back, to diving into tackles out of frustration, no anger...just passive capitulation. And that's the worrying part for me. They looked beat. And the manager couldn't pick them up or fire them into action.

Good players, Great players or Average players...once the heads drop and the confidence drains away, you're screwed.

I think that's the main thing for me. Belief looks like it's been forgotten. Maybe even lost. Someone has to somehow help them find it again. Is PC that guy? Nothing he's done here since he came in suggests that he is. That worries me.

I think the difference is at least that we were clearly a club going backwards in all areas previously and that no longer is the case. It’s obviously awful on the field at the moment but nobody can honestly believe that is something that is going to last for even the rest of this year.

I cannot agree that that no longer is the case. We went backwards last year once Cook arrived, and markedly so. We've gone backwards this season, as the league table clearly illustrates. You're hoping we start to go forwards again, and you seem convinced we will. But that doesn't mean that we're already going forwards.

Was more a comment on there being more than one thing that makes a club successful - the on the pitch stuff is obviously the only particularly visible or important one for the most part, but the club is undoubtedly a much better run operation than this time last year. It seems like a sure thing that we’ll start to see the benefit of that eventually.

The team literally hasn't gelled though, like literally.

That does explain our current form and contributed to this heavy defeat.
