Sunday Lunch 21:42 - Sep 13 with 2034 viewsBlueBlueBluex2

I’m looking for recommendations for Sunday Lunch please. Preferably not somewhere in the @rse end of nowhere (I’m coming from Cambridge) and ideally at the tail end of a nice walk.

Thanks

Kind of depends where you’re walking from?

And in which direction.

Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons, for example, does an 'All You Can Eat Buffet' for Sunday Lunch.

£120.93 per head.

Booking not always essential.

Well I’m walking somewhere nice, so not up an industrial estate to give an example.

Oxford is a touch too far on this occasion. I guess I should have stressed that Suffolk would be my preferred destination.

Assuming he's walking the Silk Road to China and is prepared to take a detour off the route to Delhi (who wouldn't?), I'd highly recommend the Yin Yang restaurant in Kathmandu. We watched the rats playing just outside the kitchen when we were last there, but don't let that put anyone off, the food was amazing (genuinely). Even more so after a couple of months in the mountains on camp rations.

Are camp rations those provided by Larry Grayson and Charles Hawtrey?

I wish I knew, but every time I got near the mess tent they'd shut that door!

*sorry*

I would suggest a walk around Dedham followed by lunch at Milsoms.

Queens head in lower layham is a personal favourite for Sunday lunch, lovely walk around the rivers country lanes. Heads up though they are struggling with draught beers.

That’s the sort of thing I’m after, thanks.

I may bump into PC there after we lose on Sat, so I’d rather not!

Thornham Walks followed by an excellent carvery at the Thornham four horseshoes. Lully old pub and great food. Unfortunately it is 100% inside the ar*e end of nowhere. Your welcome. 👍

Plenty of sensible answers!

If you are Woodbridge way then Wilfred Bridge does a good roast. Or the Ufford Crown.
Or if you are Snape way then any of the three pubs there are good.

We are spoilt for choice in Suffolk.

How about The Black Lion in Long Melford.. Great circular walks skirting the village, or walk along the railway line to either Sudbury or Lavenham

Ufford Crown roast is something to behold.

Or there's the Unruly Pig, that has been given various awards, although I've never eaten there myself, as far as I can recall.

Have to say, I've been there twice and both times been quite underwhelmed.

The Pig was very well behaved.

Is it the sort of place that would charge something like £90 for bangers and mash?

That's good to hear... I wonder if they've considered changing the name to the Reformed Pig...

Oh, it's right up Dolly's street.

Basically it should be renamed the Mild Mannered Fleecing Pig.

Surely that would be rammed though, with all the people flocking to enjoy Haverhill's delights in their droves?

Your right it would be rammed full of a weekend. Perhaps save it for a quiet Wednesday afternoon. The only down side to a Wednesday afternoon visit to Haverhill is the chance Benny doesn't fire the rotisserie up til later in the evening
