He plays in the same position as our current best player, so why would he?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Can see him potentially playing behind or alongside him, just to try and change up the failing no.10 position.

Quite counter-intuitive to resolve problems with your midfield by... removing a midfielder.

Well obviously it would mean having to play a slightly different way.

Playing two strikers isn't exactly unheard of, even in today's game.

Just a feeling, to be honest.

It's not and certainly Cook's used a striker as a 10 before. I just can't see how you look at our last 6 games and think "we need more up top and less in midfield". Would strike me as far more rational to actually move the 10 further back rather than further forward.

I'd like to see Norwood play with Bonne, although I can't see it happening with PC's insistence on a 4-2-3-1 system. When Norwood is playing well he's an asset for us and a real threat. Think those two would make a good strike partnership.

100% agree with this but alas it will never happen if Cook is so fixed on his formation of choice.

Although at this stage, what must Piggott be thinking? One of our most costly signings and can't get ahead of Jackson in the Pizza Trophy?

I'm a bit confused as to what you've seen over the past month or so that made you think "we need another striker on the pitch pronto".

As said before, I'm not sure if the solution to the midfield issue is to switch to a two man centre - if anything the number ten needs to drop back rather than switch to a 4-4-2.

Norwood is about as much a number 9 as its possible to be!

He won't be behind Bonne in the 10 role.

Probs on bench though.

RIP Sir Bobby

Jackson’s continuing inclusion is very odd. Shame we couldn’t get rid of him in the summer.

Inserting another striker into our current setup would make us more or less 4-2-4.
In another universe you could set up 4-4-2, so the wingers have more defensive responsibilities. You defend as two compact lines of 4, let the opposition have the ball in front of you, with the aim of counter-attacking with pace. But that wouldn't be adjusting our current plan, it'd be shredding it.

With the midfield we need one of them to hold a defensive position if the other pushes forward, I can't see how they can't work that out between themselves? If you go, I'll stay - it really isn't that hard.

I don't, but I think it's obvious we need more, not less, in midfield.

When they both want to get forward that’s when it leaves us vulnerable. Neither of them wants to do the horrible stuff, which I’m hoping Morsy will.

It's as though Harper and Evans have no form of communication whatsoever? Which is why I wonder if Cook needs to be more rigid and define roles for the pair of them.

But it's already a problem now when we've ostensibly got 3 centre midfielders, why would it be improved by taking one away?

To be fair it will always be between the central midfielders to make the decision; the number ten will be going forwards.

PC has faith in this 4-2-3-1 system, so it’s going to be Morsy with either one of Evans, Harper or Carroll in that midfield. Evans and Harper both appear like they enjoy the offensive side, but aren’t disciplined enough to sit in to provide that defensive shield.

I think a good number 10 reduces some of the decisions you have to make a centre midfield though, particularly when you're against another team with 3 midfielders.

Right, but in this thread people are advocating for 4-4-2, which feels very much like it's completely unrelated to this problem, in fact solving a problem we don't have and potentially exacerbating one we do have!

Who'd have thought that someone who though that Lambert and Jewell deserved more time would be wrong about something ITFC related?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
