Marcus Evans 11:48 - Nov 6 with 1866 views | pennblue | Marcus obviously still owns 5% of the club. I know it did not work out with him, and he will no doubt be reflecting on his time here, and what is happening at the club right now. There is part of me that feels that it is best to cut all ties with him, and then there is another part that feels rather sorry for him. Of course he wanted to be successful here, his kids became invested in the club, and hopefully he is still an Ipswich fan. He still has deep pockets and if Game-changer / Ashton et al thought it was a good idea, then maybe he still has a role as an important investor into the club. It depends on whether his thirst for running a football club has subsided, if it has, he may just be happy enough having a box, and sticking money in each year, purely as a business investment, a silent investor (lets face it, he was pretty close to being a silent investor anyway!). I would hope, in time, this latter option is a possibility. If we can get back into Europe, I am sure Marcus would get just as much enjoyment from being involved, but without the hassle of running a football club. [Post edited 6 Nov 2021 11:50]

Which is kind of a way of hedging his bets isn't it? So still not whole-heartedly committed to throwing all he can into us, no change there then.

I have some sympathy with ME. He wasn't a bad owner, but he was an incompetent owner.

It was perfectly clear he was incompetent long before he left.

It was a partial guarantee to smooth and diligent transition to responsible investors, yes.

I have no sympathy whatsoever with Evans. He hollowed out a club with a rich history, leaving it in a right state. 14 years of depressing decline in every way under his ownership. On balance and on the basis there have been worse owners, I’ll just mark him down as a grossly incompetent one. The sooner all trace of him, including his 5% of Gamechanger, is gone the better, as far as I’m concerned. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I get his point, evans tried, he failed but left us in good hands. Not many owners/clubs can say that.

The most important thing he did was to leave the club in good hands which we should all be grateful for, we could have ended up much worse off.

Was that good judgement or good fortune? The cynic in me says that if the Charles Manson consortium had offered a packet of Cheeselets more, Evans would have taken it - ok I’m probably being a bit harsh.

I bear Evans no ill will but have zero sympathy. He fooked up the club through being a control freak whilst controlling fook all. He's not gonna starve innit. Saying that, the 'Evans you're a cant' chants were pretty embarrassing and pathetic.

Well in the mysterious (0 posts, 0 comments) 'DaveU', he clearly had one fan who rated him anyway

Looks to me a little like DaveU has a specific hatred of J2. Not that you can tell much from someone who simply downvotes and never comments.

That's clutching at straws isn't it, he's actually alright because he sold to a decent set of new owners? We are in the state we are in because of him and his total arrogance that he could single handedly run a football club from distance. Shambles, debacle, and a disgrace. I wish we weren't still speaking about him.

Marcus Evans on 17:13 - Nov 6 with 786 views | wkj | I don't, and can't feel sorry for him. He had so many opportunities to build a solid infrastructure, and decided to chance it with Clegg and Milne. Whilst he kept the club afloat - a lot of standards and behind the scenes stuff was way underfunded. Marcus wanted the same thing that I'm sure GC20 wants, a return on investment in exchange for success - I have no empathy as a result.
