Peng Shuai, Chinese tennis player who reported sexual assault 07:26 - Nov 18 with 1070 views | Steve_M | Not been seen since and has 'sent' an e-mail saying she is resting. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-59325399 This is concerning but seems rather typical of the Chinese government at the moment.

Peng Shuai, Chinese tennis player who reported sexual assault on 08:00 - Nov 18 with 1001 views | StokieBlue | Awful stuff but as you say, it's standard behaviour from the Chinese government. The original censorship was heavy handed even for them, the post was gone after 20 minutes and then nobody could post anything which contained her name or even the word "tennis". Things have really took a downward turn under Xi. SB

It's amazing that it's become such a police state that they can send a screenshot of a draft email saying everything's fine and they think the issue will disappear. Reckless arrogance. China must be a scary place to live on a daily basis knowing that you'll disappear after any criticism.

Well I think internally it does disappear as nobody really wants to get involved in questioning the state. I'm sure they know externally nobody believes anything they say. In the end the thing the Chinese government is most scared about is it's own citizens, the rule of the communist party is based on an uprising of the population and they know they could happen to them at some point so they focus on internally suppressing things and probably don't care what people think outside their borders. It seems to have gotten a lot worse under Xi though. SB

And Xi has changed the rules, so he can stay that little bit longer in power.
