Morsy and Fraser 10:35 - Nov 29 with 883 viewsOwainG1992

I would like to see us continue with these two in the middle park to allow them to build a partnership there.
Think Morsy's bite with Fraser's classy style could become just what we need.
I felt we went backwards when Evans came on.
I do like Evans but think he's a slightly lesser version of Morsy for me.

Evans was absolutely turgid yesterday when he came on, gave away the ball on a couple of occasions and was caught in possesion trying to be too cute.

He was lucky that was Crewe, could have cost us the game yesterday against better teams.

So far, he has been extremely underwhelming.

I thought Morsy was pretty awful yesterday for what it's worth. Not really sure what he offered other than moving side to side with his hands out.

He seemed to be pretty weak in the tackle as well, really lacking any urgency in his passing and general play too. Thought him and Fraser were pretty powderpuff considering Crewe are not a physical team. Evans as you say was horrendous when he came on. The balance of the midfield seems all wrong to me as do the full backs.

The way we set up you need both midfielders to be as combative as Morsy (which neither Evans nor Fraser are). El Mizouni is probably the one.

As Hackney says below....Morsy seemed a little off yesterday, exacerbated when Evans came on.

Yeah he wasn't great either, but he has had more convincing games in the middle than Evans, but on the whole, given the hyperbole surrounding him when we signed him I've been underwhelmed.

In fact, you could argue our best player so far this season is someone who was in the bomb squad not that long ago.

Aluko for me and the goalkeeper were really the only ones who came out with any credit. JD was solid and Edwards looked dangerous when he came on but the performance by the team as a whole was so disjointed.

As Cook says it takes time for habits to form but I'm not seeing many signs of us being close to clicking. I hope I'm wrong but the proof will be in the next few fixtures against some of the better sides in the league. Lose the majority of those and the mood around the club is going to be terrible.

Donacien (if it's him you're referring to) hasn't been in the bomb squad under Cook has he?

Not sure Fraser has the mobility to play in the middle in a two, thought that was one of our failings in midfield yesterday and why PC tweaked the midfield system in the second half.

He's got some lovely attributes and we seem to have taken him from MK and negated them. He's definitely not effective as a CM in the two next to Morsy, at 10 he seems to be playing a different role and has far too much competition, it's really odd.

He's not even our set piece specialist either.

The worrying thing was when he put our three "best" midfielders on neither Fraser nor Evans seemed to know if they were the 10, or it was a flat three. Presumably the latter to try and stop Crewe just walking through us.

Morsy and El Mizouni would be a pairing I would like to see (in the absence of Tom Carroll)

Evans is too slow and ineffective in my view, Fraser seems too lightweight and positionally inept.

We looked so much worse with Evans on yesterday and thats against a struggling side.

Looked to me it was switched so Morsy was deeper than the other two as the midfield had been strung out on a few occasions when possession had been lost and Crewe broke, playing more of a Skuse type role.

I'm not sure what the best pairing is, to be honest, but it would surprise me if we saw Fraser and Morsy again in the league, maybe it might be given another go against Barrow. But I'd be inclined to give El Mizouni and Morsy a go.

Ifollow didn't make it clear and after Oldham where Harper was "10" but not really, and you ended up with a sorted staggered line of El Miz as the holding player and the two others essentially in a free role, I assumed we'd gone for that again.
