Us steel tariffs 13:57 - Dec 2 with 1340 viewsCrawfordsboot

I see that the US has ended its 25% steel tariffs on the EU.
However it has declined to lift them on the UK since it is no longer part of the EU.

Now didn’t Boris promise that Brexit and taking back control meant that we could negotiate better trading arrangements by being outside the EU? In particular with the special relationship we would quickly agree a great trade deal with the US.

Wonder how this story government will spin this? Possibly by stirring up more nationalism.

Johnson's being shown a little of what the US will do to GB if he doesn't peacefully resolve the Northern Irish brexit issue.

Let's go team China, they are much more committed to levelling up.

You'd probably look a lot smarter going 'booo big countries doing mean things' if you hadn't then bigged up China 15 minutes later.

Not concerned about looking smart, just being right!

Hypocrisy and a lack of consistency in a surprise shock move to international politics…I’m surprised.

I fully understand Lexit arguments, but being part of a bloc more aligned to our general standards rather than opening ourselves up to whatever is imposed upon us as a single nation by the US and China is preferable.

Maybe you're getting that now? Probably not. But it leaves the UK in a position where we have little room to negotiate whereas we did before as a member of the EU with a veto.

Maybe all the rabid left wingers that constitute 99% of the board aren't as rabidly left wing after all?

Or perhaps we can be left wing about human rights and discrimination and even taxation without being left wing about economics and capitalism?

Maybe politics is not quite as simple as the divisions put upon us would seem.

Quite, and as footer says, I don't think The Left are against trade or earning a living.

Nor do I understand why some people still push the UK being pro-Europe is a left thing either.

I think most of us would like to see more responsible trading but again, that's not necessarily a left only ideal.

And being fair on taxation, human rights et al used to be just known as decency. It only seems to be those opposed to such notions who look to give it labels with negative connotations.

I prefer not to cheerlead for any of the institutions that promote this shizz but that's just me. I appreciate also the attraction way back when in trying for a less mad version of the asylum by getting aboard the Euro train but the destination is still insanity.

Hopefully you will not be legitimising any of them with your vote then.

Better the devil you know sometimes, buh.

I remain unconvinced that Brext will amount to anything like success and will instead drag the standards and practices allowed here further down than our European neighbours.

We are now but a small nation competing against global giants. It ain't pretty, but it's a reality we have to accept.
