How many players came because of Paul Cook? 19:21 - Dec 4 with 1595 viewsBLUEBEAT

Morsy definitely. Pigott too, I think.

Who else?

Evans definitely. Don't think people like Walton, Burns, Celina did though. Morsy didn't want to come here! Didn't want to drop down a league. He was forced to.

I think we can now see why Morsy has been off it the last few games.

Morsy hasn’t been too great and Pig seems to have been frozen out.

Morsy can go if he wants, not showing anything more than what we had before

Yes. Very telling, in retrospect.

They're professionals...managers and players come and go...no big deal.

Besides...if they came to 'play' for Cook...its been poor.

Yes. And I would fully expect our captain to be wanting a move away in January window.

If he wants away, move him on as soon as possible.

"forced to"?

You mean Boro no longer wanted him on the wages he was on and no other Championship club was prepared to pay them either?

Whatever the motivation for any player joining, they are contracted to the club not the manager. The relationship with the new manager and how they perform on the pitch will be key to whether they stay or move on and how that happens. Our biggest issue will be any who are deemed to not be as good as the wages they are on and not wanted. Few stand out like that at the moment but time will tell.

Why would he get a better offer in January than he did in September?

Certainly not because of his brilliant performances in midfield for us.
There was a hole in central midfield before he arrived and there is still a hole in central midfield, despite Cook saying everything would be solved when Morsy started playing.

With him, you can be absolutely sure that there will be a lot of sideways passes and pretty sure that he will get caught in possession a few times and pretty sure that he will get booked-although he has not actually got booked as often as he should have been.

Think this is a bit OTT, Morsy's been decent and at times more than decent. But there's no one currently at the club who's going to get out of here in an upward direction without playing absolutely brilliantly for the next and 6 months. They'll all know that for sure.

Morsy? He's 30 and on a 3-year contract, barring a Championship club suddenly deciding they're absolutely desperate for an experienced DM, there's one way he gets back to playing at that level - Ipswich Town getting promoted.

Because he could get a better club than this one?

It was assumed he’d still be a Middlesborough player until the eleventh hour and then we were the only option available to him.

I don't think it really works like that. If there were other Championship clubs who wanted him in the Summer they'd have been making enquiries and monitoring his situation at Boro, just like we were.

If these suitors existed in the Summer they could've easily gazumped us. We'll have got him because we were prepared to pay the requisite fee and offer the right wages.
