Our American friends must be over the moon with the thought that we have poached a first team coach from Manchester United. One of the few clubs the majority of Americans have heard of.

So what you are suggesting is that because the owners have heard of Man U, this is the only reason McK has been appointed.

An interesting take.

I'm not sure that "interesting" is the right word.

"Odd", might be a better one.

Manchester United still has a lot of weight in the USA, and I do think a certain amount of that profile will resonate with the American contingent. I certainly don't think that will be the only factor - not by a long shot - and I doubt that Pinewood meant it that way either.

Clearly he did as it was a 'smart move' and therefore considered.

Very strange.

I don't want to talk for the dude - but I did read it as 'part of the appeal' rather than the motivating factor.

Not so much the owners (they clearly have a lot more worldwide football knowlege than that), but in terms of marketing the ITFC brand in the US, it could have some advantage.

Very much doubt it was more significant in the decisionmaking process than just a minor added bonus, tho.

What a ridiculous post.

Was contacted by an American friend yesterday and asked what I thought the chances were that Ipswich could poach a coach from United. Fox News have a web site that covers English football in depth and carried a story that Manchester United had granted Ipswich permission to speak to McKenna.

Kieran McKenna has been appointed on merit but I’m sure our owners will be impressed at the quality Ashton is bringing to the club.

Ashton hasn't put a foot wrong since he's been here.
Well done Mark.

Give it a rest.

What do people get out of making comments like that? They're putting a lot of money into the club to try and get us where we all want to be.

No need for the negativity towards them.

Pushing the bigoted, superior, jingoistic view that "The Yanks" know nothing about "soccer ball". Nice.

Relatively accurate though, by all accounts.

I doubt they know what Millwall is to be fair.

I think what we all need to take from this is that Ashton and his chums will be running the business side of the club and the coach will be the coach but with some contribution towards recruitment strategy.
