Still eight points adrift 17:32 - Jan 29 with 1199 viewsHARRY10

Eleven and ten if Oxford and Plymouth win their games in hand.

If we had dominated/played well today but lost that is frustrating, but could be put down to it being 'one of those days'.

If we make it into the playoffs we need to be better than what we are against mid/lower placed teams. We need to take it as read we will beat those outside the top six, and look to nick points off those six.

Currently, we are not.

Just over two points a game average needed - 92 plus over a season. Did it look like that today ?

If the teams below us win their games in hand we will slide at least 3 places, it's not good reading, maybe next season,

I really don’t think we were bad today, just lacked a real cutting edge - but we were away to a decent. I was clearly watching a different game to most today though.

As I have maintained throughout, we are still a bit away from where we want and need to be.

We aren’t good enough to make the play-offs this year.

McKenna's done really well to see us through 4 games out of 6 with maximum points, but we certainly aren't showing the kind of consistent quality you need to pull off a big run like that to the play-offs.

We'd probably need to win 5 in a row to reign in the top 6 and to do that you've got to be markedly superior to the opposition most weeks. Even when we're winning, we're still winning by tight margins, which very easily go against you.

It is not about how many we win in a row, going on a winning run etc

It is who we are playing, and the results from those games. We could play and beat the bottom three in a consecutive game, and then lose to a tip eight team. That is down to how the fixtures pan out.

We will not hit the play number of points if we cannot beat mid table teams like Weds and Bolton, never mind top six teams. No matter what order they are in, we need points off the top six, if not top eight.

We are not getting those points.

Yep, we've been on a really good run and yet we're basically still as far away from the play-offs as when we started. We've only really played well in the first 2 of KMcK's games, the rest have been really scrappy with the odd bit of quality or just outright poor.

We're still a long long way off being consistently good enough to challenge the top 6.

I mean, we can beat mid-table sides. We beat one last Saturday (they were above us in the league at kick off).

The kind of deficit we've got, realistically we need a big big run during February. Getting within touching distance of the Top 6 by March means we'll have more confidence going into trickier fixtures and the opposition will be under more pressure. If we're still sat looking at 6-point+ deficit at 10pm on March 8th, it ain't happening.

We haven’t won more than 2 games in a row in nearly 2 years.

Hell of an ask to make up that gap

He needed to come in and instantly have us transformed to title winning form in order to get us promoted so I don’t know if people view that as realistic or not. That’s still the case, so we just have to keep pushing. Key to get central midfield back to first choice by the time we play MK I’d say.

And we can lose to them (Bolton/Weds

If we beat all the bottom clubs that would give us 18 points - 59 in total

It would then requite another six wins from mid/top table teams, another 18 points seeing us on 77 points

Irrespective of what order we play them in. Players should be motivated where ever the team is in the league. If we cannot pick up points, or even beat those who will most likely be in the playoffs, what hope have we if we do make the play offs ?

Unfortunately 5 wins in a row hasn't been achieved since 2003!

Our record against top half teams in general is W3, D6, L5, under McKenna it's W1 D0 L1. It's not winning the league standard, but it's also not "we just can't compete with these teams!" standard either.

We ARE averaging 2 points a game under McKenna, and after the next two games I strongly suspect we will be averaging 2.25. Won’t that do ?

To have any chance of making the play-offs Town need to win EVERY remaining home game and look to pick up as many wins as possible from the away game - draws probably aren't much use so no point in being cagey away from home.
