Ukraine situation 22:44 - Feb 26 with 1600 views | FrimleyBlue | Anyone else finding it difficult to follow and understand what exactly is happening. Sky and BBC seem to reporting different things. Social media has russia 16 miles from the capital, Sky saying 90 miles. BBC saying 60 miles. Is it just a day of changing situation or are they all using their own and possibly wrong sources... Has anyone got a different route of media they are using and feel it's a good level of information coming from them. [Post edited 26 Feb 2022 22:48]

If it is looped news, it depends on when they update the segment.

Thanks for this. It’s interesting (if a little chilling). I wonder how far away from the original plan things are going for the Russians in Ukraine and outside it? I guess they will always say ‘to plan’, but it’s looking ever more messy for that animal Putin to me. His PR is not being helped by the bravery of the Ukrainian people.

I think he wanted a quick, surgical decapitation of the Ukrainian regime using mostly special forces, expected the country to fold as quickly as Georgia in 2008, or even expected a rising by Russian-speakers in support of his troops. None of those things has happened. It's obviously difficult to gauge these things in real time, but I don't get the impression he launched a full-scale conventional invasion of the country from the off. The attacks appear too piecemeal, the bombardments (relatively) light and casualty figures (always to be taken with a pinch of salt) too low. I suspect that the airborne landings at the airfield near Kiev were the centrepiece of the plan, with reinforcements flown in and a quick drive into the city. Which did not come off. Leaving the armoured push from Belarus in the north having to fight its way past blocking positions and blown bridges. Plus the naval landings on the Azov coast to physically capture places they probably hoped would be ceded in peace talks.

I think the brave rising has been by civilians on both sides: https://mobile.twitter.com/antiputler_news/status/1497843820091871235?ref_src=tw

My hope is that some of those closest to him turn against him, but I have no idea whether that might happen. The vast majority of Russians get their “news” from the state run media. The protesters are those with access to other sources who are reporting more factually.

Putin's major issue is what will he do post the invasion? He will eventually win this war on the ground and I assume his aim was to put in his own russian pro Ukrainian Government, he will now understand given the the way the Ukrainian people are fighting for their country they will never accept a pro russian government. Occupation will only result in constant insurgency and he will be fully aware that same situation in Afghanistan and russia's failure resulted in a major part to the breakup of the soviet union

He wants a buffer between him and Nato counties despite the fact that not once have nato forces shown any intent to set foot on Russian soil. They will overwhelm Ukrainian forces eventually, question is does he stop there? Let's hope someone in Russia sees this folly for what it is and takes him down but I don't think anyone has tbe strength of personality to do it.

It's about more than just buffers. But to answer your question, it is highly likely that, if successful, Moldova would be his next target. He has already destabilised the area and has a sliver of pro Russian separatists.
