Correct.
You can roll you ankle as shown in the photo and do nothing more than strain the ligaments which can be ok in as little as 2-3 weeks dependent on how much they stretched.
It depends to what extent the ligaments stretched and that is impossible to say by any photo.
You’d be amazed at how much an ankle can stretch and no serious damage be done. Freeze frame photos have shown ankles before where you think the guy must have snapped his leg and in actual fact he just carried on.
If they fully stretched of have partially torn then it could be 8-12 weeks. Full year or rupture and yes season definitely over but the club would already know that from scans. [Post edited 9 Mar 2022 20:39]

Like I said , lateral collateral ligament damage. If this happened to you or I (without the benefit of immediate medical support / rehab the player will get), we’d be looking at something in the region of 6-8 weeks. if severe structural fibre tearing occurs, anything from 6months upwards.
Regardless of medical interventions and rehab access the body will repair at roughly the same rate whether you’re in the professional sporting arena, or Joe public like us. The key difference is access to immediate medical attention to limit secondary trauma due to the effects swelling. I suspect a lot of the players have access to hyperbaric chambers to enhance tissue healing .

My fear is that even if it’s 2-3 weeks, he’ll be out for huge games against Portsmouth, Oxford and Plymouth which will likely define our season.

Burgess and his height could be very handy over these next few games. Esp sat against their 2nd top scorer who is fairly handy in the air.
I'd be more concerned if we lost wolfy at the moment as he is the key ball player from the back imo | |

It's pretty obvious he's strained his ligaments as in rolled his ankle rather than anything more severe based on what the club have said and the fact he was walking.
It will be sore and it's as much as only being able to play once when the swelling has gone down and having full motion of the ankle again. I reckon he'll miss a couple of games but nothing worse than that.
I've been playing with an ankle that was purple and blue two weeks after rolling it, the swelling made the ankle look ridiculous colours but after a week didn't hurt at all! | |

Yes it is and it’s my best clinical judgement. It’s based on mechanism of injury, velocity of injury, and the structures under stress. He also suffered immediate, significant swelling and was unable to continue to play. I doubt he’ll play for a few weeks now unfortunately. Would be delighted to be wrong of course and sincerely hope I am! [Post edited 10 Mar 2022 7:21]
