Defending Corners . 12:28 - Mar 20 with 2078 viewsWickets

Did not really want to but have just watched the highlights . Last week against Portsmouth we saw Woolfie being constantly man handled at corners and dispite his many complaints to the Ref nothing was given of course and to be honest this is the norm . Watching Oxford goal yesterday our defender Burgess i think does not lay a glove on the goalscorer. It seems strange to say when we have been so good at keeping clean sheets under KM but where we too soft or did we just switch off ?

Watching the game back we coped all game.

Just 1 second of ignorance from Burgess, I always feel strongly with situations like that. He should be fined.

In a world where you can get fined for turning up late to training. I think it's fair to get a fine for not doing your job.

I guess / hope you are joking here. Fine him?

He made a mistake in a game where up until then he had been excellent.

Do we fine the strikers for not scoring a decent chance.

We are all upset about the result but that is a ridiculous suggestion (if you meant it)

There's a big difference here

In your example. The striker has missed a chance but at least tried.

Burgess.. didn't even attempt to move with the player he was supposed to be marking. That's the difference.

So yes I would fine him. This doesn't change that upto that moment he had a really solid game. But his lack of effort where it mattered resulted in us drawing the game. You just never in a game of football just stand still in the box let alone last minute of the game and let your man walk infront of you.

Just need to see off one corner, an "old school" man on the post blocks that??... I mean its the last play of the game and everyone is back..... surely one can be spared for that just in case!🤷🏻‍♂️

I really thought your earlier post that Wes Burns has been cleverly coached to pass to a teammate would be the weird one for today but fining players for missing a challenge is right up there

What’s you evidence it was to do with a lack of effort? Ridiculous interpretation.

Missing a challenge? He didn't attempt a challenge to be able to miss it

And regarding the earlier post. As per the post itself and replies within it. If you don't think they've improved individuals that's on you and I ask why we need a coaching team if you don't think they do anything.

I think you are deliberately not understanding the word "miss".

The coaching would probably be getting Celina, and Morsy in a previous match, into the right position rather than specifically suggesting Burns should pass to them.

would we have conceded this goal with Fridge there instead?

I don't dislike Burgess, I actually thought he offered early promise but he isn't as experienced in this side and doesn't know his role so well currently

It could be down to a lack of experience as part of McKenna's back three currently?

It's not results like this which will cost us a play-off finish, it's that shocking start which ultimately cost Cook his job

I'm sure I've heard a manager talking about fining players for losing people at corners. Probably something which happened in the past but not these days.

Cos that wouldn't put them on edge at all.

Where you heard this before, it wouldn't have been roughly some 30 odd miles south west of London by any chance?

Mckenna seems a bit more level headed than that, that seems an old school way of doing it

It's reactive rather than proactive, I'd imagine McKenna would want to figure out what caused that to happen and figure out how to stop it happening again

He clearly knows his onions on the coaching front, it's amazing how much more he seems to get out of this squad, which ultimately isn't anyone he's either picked or signing barring some January loans

So are we to fine strikers for not scoring?

I’m struggling to get my head round the fact that 3rd division players are so criticised for making a mistake! They play for us and not Prem teams for a reason! The6 are going to do it - the wonder and joy is that they have made so few for the last dozen matches.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

I think it was Joe Royle, although I can't say that 100 per cent. There was a spell when he was here when we were letting in goals from set pieces very regularly and he was becoming exasperated.

No, I totally agree with you, certainly not KMc's style at all, particularly when we've conceded two goals in about 10 games!
