New striker speculation. 12:48 - May 9 with 1939 views | OriginalMarkyP | Obviously, we've all got a lot of interest in this and the speculation is going to be pretty incessant I would imagine until someone new walks in the door. Worry a little that this is going to lead to quite a bit of pressure on the man incoming. I think for a fair chunk of our fans their is the feeling that the team as a whole is going to be promotion-ready come the start of the season, it just needs that one spearhead character to come in and score a bunch of goals and we'll be serious promotion contenders. (Not sure I believe that to be clear). But this is where the money becomes a problem. In all of the threads so far on new strikers their are a lot of different names, all of which we can probably afford. But also (perhaps) because we can afford them, there's not a lot of excitement around the names getting mentioned. A lot of us (me included) wanted Pigott last season. We got him and it didn't work. You'd have thought he'd guarantee goals. He didn't. If we sign another Pigott and he doesn't fire from the off (especially if we're not steam-rolling teams) I think it will be surprising how quickly the dissenting voices start (I think @IpsRich said this...football fans always revert to better the devil you know) grumbling about players who've been let go. The alternative is a Celina style signing. A player so seemingly above this level that the majority of fans will give him time because it's so obvious he's a higher level whether he starts scoring straight away or not, but even that doesn't buy you that much grace. I really hope we get collectively blown away by a new arrival upfront. But the ITFC fan in me keeps nagging at that it won't be plain sailing.

We need the right fit - somebody that improves us as a team and gets the best out of the likes of Chaplin, Aluko, Celina (assuming he stays) too. Towards the back end of the season Pigott, Norwood and Bonne just weren't functional in our system in any proper way. If on top of that, we have a striker next season that starts as quickly as Bonne did this season, we will be laughing though.

I think KMcK's system suits a Caniggia style forward more. And he had better hair.

Yep, which is where we were getting to with Jackson.

New striker speculation. on 13:27 - May 9 with 1653 views | jayessess | With all the hype I find it hard to believe we're going to find a striker that is especially mind-blowing. Pigott came here as a top L1 striker, Bonne as a striker who'd had one good and one indifferent season in the league above. Are we realistically in a position to be more ambitious in terms of profile than that? Whoever we recruit, if they're from our level or below, from the Premier League loan market, from the Championship or coming from overseas, isn't going to be a sure thing. There's also a good chance that McKenna and our recruitment team end up going for someone who fits a brief but doesn't have a track record that excites. But it's not all on the striker anyway. For me, with a good pre-season and without an enormous point deficit to overcome we're serious promotion contenders already and would be even if all we did was keep our current strikers.

New striker speculation. on 14:20 - May 9 with 1418 views | dirtyboy | I still think Chaplin can do the job, even though he lacks the physical attributes. That being said, if Celina doesn't return (which I don't think he will sadly) Chappers does have more game time IMO. Parrott would be very good, I really liked him when he was here last time, even though goals weren't at the forefront, the way he plays would suit.

I liked Parrot, just don't remember him having the kind of pace KMcK likes.

As I recall, he was more of an attacking midfielder.
