This whole potential Town TV thing 10:51 - May 9 with 2961 views | STYG | Obviously it's all speculation but anyone know how this is likely to work? Beyond charging £10 to watch a Tuesday home match. There was talk of the EFL dropping the 3pm embargo, which would presumably mean the club were free to then show Saturday home matches, but presumably there's a fine line between reducing attendances if you allow fans to purchase the match online for cheaper than a match ticket? So would this mean the club may have to charge £20 to watch online to try and ensure people aren't tempted to stay at home. Seems a reasonable deal for ITFC fans from further afield who would save on travel and spend that on a match ticket and presumably that risks losing a much smaller amount of fans, who might otherwise not bother anyway due to travel costs / times. What of away matches? Even at £20 a pop, I'd watch every away match I didn't go to. Would the club be at the hands of iFollow because the home team had it, or could the home team provide facilities for us to broadcast there in exchange for a % of the revenue? I assume that the iFollow deals for them means nobody else can broadcast from there, so we'd have to use iFollow, which possibly then works out great at £10 a match, if the saturday embargo is lifted. In which case would ITFC still promote iFollow to a degree so fans could watch away matches and would the club not want to be tied in still to that to get their share of that revenue? I doubt anyone really knows and it's all speculation but seems quite a bit for the club to think about to maximise revenue, not lose home fans and not miss out on away match share. I'd definitely watch pre-match and post-match stuff too, and the potential to run old matches and so on through the day / week and charge a healthy monthly subscription for such extra content seems a great way for the club to make extra money. Who wouldn't be up for a re-run of Blackburn from Christmas 91, a bit of St Etienne and the Anglo Italian Cup ties lol assuming the club have footage / rights. [Post edited 9 May 2022 10:53]

This whole potential Town TV thing on 11:07 - May 9 with 2837 views | wkj | I wouldn't be at all surprised if the EFL dictate the bulk of the rules, even if Town are the proprietor of the streaming service. The EFL have scammed millions of football fans out of digital radio broadcasting for years, so I don't see them letting clubs have too much control of the rules behind streaming broadcasts.

Robins TV is the model for what's planned at Town if that helps illustrate how things will be. https://robinstv.bcfc.co.uk/

A few clubs already stream their games through their own TV service and have done for a while, they just pulled out of the IFollow deal.

Thanks Phil. Was Ashton involved in that by any chance? Presumably either completely or something he helped launch before he left. I see they were doing matches for £10, which presumably hasn't had a massive impact on attendances.

So worst case, we leave iFollow and we can't order away matches through the ITFC iFollow side of things (this may just be a general iFollow thing anyway and allow access), then we could sign up to each opponent and order through that but would be stuck with home commentary.

iFollow deal has another year to run, incidentally, so won't be for another year.

It's getting put to the clubs at the annual meeting in June by all accounts.

Quelle surprise. Actually I'm going back on my blue shirt prediction for next year's kit. There's a very good chance it'll be red and the Suffolk Punch will have feathers! I can't see the price options there, but it's £5 for audio so expect it'll be same/similar to iFollow at £10. There's a good chance there'll be a monthly or seaon option for overseas viewers that works out at much better value even after purchasing a VPN (that's what the swans do - £25 per month for all matches).

This is similar to what Nottingham Forest offers. Interestingly, the audio coverage for both use the local BBC coverage, so if it were possible, I'd try to sync the audio and video coverage, so as not to lose Brenner and Millsy.

Club legend though he is, I think Mills is pretty poor as a co-commentator - aural Horlicks. Edmundson at the end of last season was just the ticket - just a shame we have to use him on the pitch!

Bristol City's game at the weekend is away to Huddersfield. It is available on Bristol's TV, even though Huddersfield are still on I-Follow. Bristol's coverage promises several camera angles but whether they take the cameras with them, or coverage in the Championship is already that bit better, I don't know. [Post edited 9 May 2022 18:03]

I didn't hear Edmundson but he's good with the Coffee Club. It strikes me that once his career is over, he's got the talent and confidence to make it in the football media.
This whole potential Town TV thing on 22:09 - May 9 with 1586 views | Mark | Hopefully Town TV will work out better for fans and the club, we will see. There is room for improvement, although also the potential not to be as good. Personally I like it that iFollow uses the BBC Radio Suffolk commentary, which is independent of the club. If things are not going well I like the commentators to be free to say so! Then there is the cost, which is the amount we pay to subscribe and advertising we have to watch. I don't mind the ads before the game and at half-time, but don't like in-game advertising especially if it is instrusive. This could be on-screen or at the stadium around the pitch. I would rather pay more than have adverts flashing at me when I am trying to focus on the football.
This whole potential Town TV thing on 22:40 - May 9 with 1529 views | jeera | At £20 surely you'd see a return to people looking for illegal streams instead. At a tenner it attracts all sorts of fans, not those who would otherwise attend. Surely with the extremely simple way of getting ifollow already has shown that with this season's attendances. I would rather attend but cannot so am more than happy to pay the £10. There will be a number of people in the same boat. Who wants to pay anything to watch on a screen if they could otherwise be at a live game? Not me, not most I'd think.

I agree with this - also it's up to the club to ensure that the 'matchday experience' is far better than watching on a screen at home - and I'm sure that they will be aiming for this...
