Ben Morris 15:45 - May 23 with 2040 viewsclive_baker

Turns 23 in a few weeks. He's obviously had his issues with injuries and what not, did his ACL IIRC, but he really is at a stage of his development where he should be playing senior football. We've extended his contract by a further 12 months, does anyone think we'll see anything of him in a Town shirt? Feels odd to trigger that unless we wanted to take a closer look in pre season.

Loan at GAIS seems to be going OK, albeit in the 2nd tier in Sweden. A player who has known where the net is throughout his youth career, I can't help but wonder if he could be one to kick on. He strikes me as one of those players that just has a nack of scoring goals, a bit like a Jack Marriott but with less edge.

Maybe hoping to sell for a small fee with a % clause in there? Taylor had hoped to take him up to Hamilton with him this season.

Isn't his departure a sure thing? I thought i read somewhere that Morris' loan was done to help him out as his contract run down.

GAIS are actually Swedish 3rd tier so seems incredibly unlikely he'll do much here in future - as KK says maybe enough to get a sell on clause if he goes elsewhere.

I know there have been times whenr eally ripping it up here but never worked out - at time of the covid premature end to the season players like Chambers and Skuse were really pushing his case with the coaching staff as he was flying in training

Feels somewhat ambitious to extend his deal by a year with a view to getting a fee, I can't imagine there would be much in it for us. Perhaps a sell on clause, but again the calibre of club he would likely go to probably wouldn't be able to command too much for him if he bangs them in. Still, I guess it's low risk as we could always loan him out again if that didn't materialise.

When I've seen him for the youth sides he's looked like a natural goalscorer. Movement is good, can finish, not the strongest but reads the game well. Like a young Bamford. I can't help but feel he might follow Rhodes and Marriott in this line of promising forwards given away on the cheap before getting a decent crack. Circumstances were a little different with Rhodes as he funded more senior acquisitions like Scotland but still, I've always liked the look of Morris. Colchester could do worse than looking at him.

Injuries and a coupel of bad loan spells have cost him 3 years of his career - too much to come back from for most but hopefully he can do something.

I think Colchester would be a good fit as well

Colchester were definitely keeping a watch on him prior to his injuries so wouldn't be any surprise if he ultimately ended up there.

Tbf, I don’t think it’s ever a surprise when a town player ends up there.

Out of interest - are the oldies (Chambers, Skuse, etc) at Col U contracted or likely to stay there for next season?

They did pull themselves out of a relegation dogfight in the end but it was a bit of a disappointing season for them.

And we assume that Col U want to give all our unwanted players (young and old) a new cosy home, but it's hardly been a roaring success. Think I'd prefer our ex-players go elsewhere and further their careers.

I do sort of no him through Halstead CC. Top lad, very unlucky with injuries at key times. His England youth past is giving him that extra time I’m thinking.

Small sample size I know, but i remember him coming on vs Blackburn (Hurst first game) and nearly scoring a beauty. He looked really decent. Never saw him again
