Or that football clubs release a new home and away shirt every single year in search of a buck, selling them in their 10's of thousands and resigning thousands of perfectly good 'old' kits to the bottom of a drawer. Thus contributing to the sort of consumerism that has played its part in pumping CO2 into the atmosphere?

Suspiciously steady state. Perhaps it's forward looking with a nice, much needed nuclear winter of radioactive particulates in the atmosphere blocking out solar radiation for a decade or three. Call me optimistic! [Post edited 25 Jul 2022 11:33]

You could argue car leasing is the more eco way to drive a car. Newer cars, often electric, with regular maintenance over driving the 10 year old diesel banger into the ground. Best option would be a functioning public transport network. Thats not going to happen for a generation.

Yeah, I agree. Also we can't be too critical about motoring historically, it's been a large contributor to societal development, especially in remote areas in terms of job opportunities etc. Healthcare, education, loads of beneficiaries. Until relatively recently there haven't been the more environmentally friendly alternatives for consumers but that's changing. As you say, I would wager a larger % of new lease vehicles are electric than the rest of vehicles on the road. I'm close to making the switch myself, it's been the cost thats been prohibitive thus far but I'm biting the bullet.

I genuinely think in 10-15 years time the idea/way of traveling to away matches will be way different to now. 'I follow' type coverage for those at home. Maybe interactive experiences at Portman Rd for those wanting the matchday experience when we play away? How about noise recorded at Pt Rd and pumped in to the away game? Those who do go I suspect will be a token number - and maybe will be compulsory coaches / trains? Not saying all the above will happen - but I do think the model of 3000 fans driving 1500 cars on a round trip of 200 miles to watch 90 mins football - think that will be challenged and changed at some point. Much like other leisure travel will be too.

I suspect to a certain extent you're right. But I hope big crowds will still travel, mitigated by electric cars and better arranged shared transport, whether that's in private cars or public transport.

Wouldn’t happen imo. You’d be asking people who work all week for their weekend of enjoyment to effectively scrap arguably the best part of being a football fan - away days. And where would it end? Next you can’t travel more than 50 miles to a racecourse. Then no further than 20 miles to your nearest relative. Then it’s 5 miles to your nearest park. It’s just nonsensical.
