Even if it was very disappointing to not take one of the chances towards the end.
We need to get sharper in attack and in defence, which we should do now we’re playing proper games. But in general play I thought we really took over the game. We played some good stuff and really created a lot of space and opportunities for each other. |  |

Based on the 2nd half display, if we've got any Town fans on here moaning then they don't really know much about football. Think Morsy will be disappointed he didn't bury his chance, but he looked like he was trying to make sure his shot was on target rather than trying to place it into a corner, but a decent stop by their keeper. Great to see the intensity maintained until the final whistle too. If we are going to play like that for the majority of this season then for me this could be our time. Plenty to be encouraged about. |  |

But finishing is part and parcel of winning football matches, just as creating chances is. If our finishing is that profligate all season, then we've plainly got a problem, and saying so does not mean that someone doesn't know much about football.
I remember that particular insult being trotted out early last season. Those who couldn't see that Edwards was far better than anything in this league didn't know anything about football, apparently. Drawing strong conclusions after one game, whether they are positive or negative, is not wise.

That's the frustrating thing with this place and other places. There seems to be a demand for 100% positive thoughts only. That's not how football works. If everything was positive, brilliant we'd have won the game at a canter etc. But for all the positives of today there were some negatives which hopefully we won't see much of going forwards.
Lee Evans for example. Goal aside carried on last seasons incapability imo of breaking up opponent attacks.
Davis was shocking and it was a very poor decision to play him.
Aluko has shown all through pre season that he has made things tick.... not selected.
Burns hasn't looked like last seasons burns.. what is the cause? Fatigue or opponents covering him? We need to sort that out.
And we again had more possession and shots than the oppo whilst failing to outscored them. They are just facts.
KM You'd imagine won't be all fluffy about it. He will know certain things didn't go to plan. Hopefully it's a game where he's learned certain things.
I personally think we may see another cm come in as altho we have ball.. I don't feel Evans is a good enough back up.

Of course there are bits and pieces that can still be improved, there always is even if the performance is top notch. However, let’s rewind 12 months we scrapped an injury time draw against a promoted L2 side and the difference today, just no comparison. There’s little doubt that Bolton won’t be up there this season, they looked a decent side to me and they will cause sides problems - home and away. That said, during that 2nd half there was only one side that was really trying to win that game today and that was us. The way we passed, pressed and created chances it was terrific to see and that tempo didn’t drop even with the changes. There was enough for me to feel heartened about, even with a draw at home and I can be pessimistic with the best of them. | |

A good game against a good team but our inability to kill teams off when absolutely dominating them still remains.
Plenty of positives but also lots of negatives too. Not going to dwell on them too much, just hope we don’t see a continued theme.
Think Aluko has to start, Chaplin and Harness didn’t really provide much creative spark. John Jules looks very promising, needs to work on his touch a little but he definitely has something about him. | | | |

Nightmare debut for Davis, he surely can’t play worse than that. Evans is an intriguing player. He has quality but many times his decision making is just a second or two off. Be interesting to see how Ball compares to him.
Harness was anonymous, more to come from him I hope. Ladapo has a good touch, he’ll do well. JJ is exciting and will be fun to watch.

Second half we played some good stuff. First half was iffy in places.
Some of the weight of our through balls was off today. Get that right and we will have loads of chances.
Leigh looked good when he came on. Davis looks like he needs more time with the team. Thought it was odd that he started considering Leigh has been with the squad all pre season.
Could still do with a Celina type player.
Bolton were alright and to be fair, we should have done better with chances in the last 15.

It’s not a demand that you have to be 100% positive, it’s actually looking at what we did do at times today and then looking at the bigger picture. I agree, that there were things that could still be improved, it wasn’t perfect but at times we looked really decent and it’s not often I find myself saying that and that’s what gives me plenty of encouragement and optimism in going forwards.
