The County Championship is in its penultimate round of matches; several of the teams have just one game to go. The final round of fixtures will be played next week.
The ECB has not yet decided how many teams (if any) will be relegated from first division and promoted from 2nd. How can this situation be fair on the counties and their players?

It's ridiculous. After all that faffing around, consultations etc last year, they finally decided to revert to the 2 division format, only to possibly change it again next year.
If things change, it will be the fourth format change in as many years. Obviously the 2020 thing was a little more unavoidable. |  |

Didn't the countries kind of bring this on themselves by not agreeing to what the ECB wanted to do? (i.e. The ECB want to reduce the size of the top division and the counties wont accept it.....so they are still debating exactly how many go up and down!?) [Post edited 12 Sep 2022 13:30]

Quite. As it stands and if they go with a 6 team super, premier league whatever you want to call it, that has been muted, then Northants will join Surrey, Hants, Lancs, Essex and Yorkshire in it. | |

I see Essex made short work of Yorkshire's first innings. Cook has now replaced Porter as the best bowler to get nowhere near the England team. (That's not a criticism, England do have better bowlers. It's just that Chelmsford produces terrific county bowlers.) Interesting that Cook says the 100 added a couple of yards to his pace. In other cricket news, my club won the National T20 final yesterday.
As they should really seeing as they’ve paid players in recent years. Paul Walter (Manchester Orignals), Nathan McCandrew (Melbourne Renegades), Mohammed Amir (Pakistan) and Monty Panesar (England) all in the last 4 years. Plus this year George Hankins (Gloucestershire) and Adele Malik. And the overseas who failed to sort a visa was Babar Azams teammate and the top wicket taker in last years Pakistan Premier League. It’s insane the money they throw about.
However, it’s nice to see a couple of my pals playing in the first team. So whilst I have no care for the upper echelons of the club and am happy sticking to my own group, it’s good to see them doing so well to have made the first team. I captained a couple of these lads earlier this season in a local T20 comp as it goes. |  |

The UK cricket schedule is bloated with too many international fixtures (ECB greed). doubt this will be reduced.
The County problem is that August is being given over the the 100, with the Blast having to precede it in July as these are the only 2 County competitions that make money. This pushes the CC to the fringes, with detrimental effects on the Test team. something has to give & it's hard to see what it is - it's usually been the CC. The other problem is that the counties will veto anything that threatens their existence. Keeping 18 counties on life support should not be set in stone. The ECB are trying to create different tiers among the counties e.g. through the 100 being based on the big cities and grounds. A first class structure of 3 divisions of 6 might improve the intensity of county cricket. |  |

Middlesex play nearly all of their big games at Lord's for the capacity. As I'm sure you know, they have only ever been tenants at Lord's & looked at basing themselves elsewhere especially as the training facilities at Lords were sub-standard e.g. no lockers for the players, availability of nets etc. Radlett CC is their training base. Middlesex play their home 2nd XI games there, this year played their Royal London Cup games there & some 20/20. They have used Merchant Taylors School in the past & played 1 CC game there this year. | |
