Preston have banned a fan for life for being derogatory about the Royal Family on 09:40 - Sep 14 by BlueBadger
It's What She Would Have Wanted.
Hmmm, on the surface it seems over-the-top but if someone had tagged in the club at the time of Pride and joked he wanted gays to die. Or was derogatory about minorities due to the fact that players took a knee, would we still be saying the ban was excessive?
Joking about death isn’t a good look - that chap was foolish and probably thought he was being clever tweeting that.

You think that's bad, they have just announced national guinnea pig awareness week has been cancelled.
[Redacted] Hospital Trust has declared a temporary hold on 'non-essential' social media communications and putting up of posters about the building.
My team have just spent months getting a load of education stuff prepped for a 'deteriorating patient' week to take advantage of the fact that yesterday was World Sepsis Day. Officially, we weren't supposed to put up ou posters, but on the grounds that one old lady's death shouldn't potentially put lots of other old ladies at risk of dying we've gone ahead and stuck 'em out anyway.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

In all fairness, I've now read the article and yeah, it's a bit much and probably not unreasonable.
'A source with knowledge of the situation told the Guardian that the tweet, since deleted, said that the optimal way for the week to end would be for the royal family to all die on their way to the Queen’s funeral.
In a separate tweet the fan asked whether he would be ejected from the stadium for booing during a minute’s silence, and joked that he would make a Nazi salute in Queen Elizabeth II’s honour. The club were tagged in all the messages.'

....you can't publicly wish death on numerous people, then threaten to perform a nazi salute in a football ground and not expect consequences.
If this tweet was directed at an opposition player, or a member of the public and it said that he hopes the persons family all die there would quite rightly be uproar and an inevitable ban.
We are seeing a bit of a trend whereby because insults and threats are directed at the Royal Family they are seen as "fair game" and it shouldn't be taken as seriously as others.
I think you're wrong on this one.

This guy was a member of a club, and the club decided they no longer wanted him as a member. He was entitled to say what he said, they were entitled not to want him as a member.
A lifetime ban seems over the top though, I do agree.
Ched Evans is a different debate, and one that's been had on here many times. Some will argue that he was found not guilty of a crime, and that even if he had (ultimately) been found guilty, he should still have the opportunity to work for a living. Others will argue that he showed total indifference towards the wellbeing of women and shouldn't have a job involving the opportunity to influence kids. I can appreciate the arguments either way, but I don't think Preston's stance on it prevents them from taking decisions about who they allow to be a member of the club.
If there's a lesson here, it's to realise that when you "Tweet" you're publishing to the world in a way that is permanent. Care is needed, and wishing death on people is not a great idea. Tagging institutions with PR departments when doing so is a still worse idea.
Incidentally, I don't see this as a case of the establishment telling us we must mourn, or what to think about the monarchy. I think Preston would have been likely to make the same decision whichever funeral-attending family was being referred to in the tweet.

Am sure the Royals love all fluffy animals, some have even been known to go fox watching on a Boxing day.
The late Duke of Edinburgh is estimated to have slaughtered at least 30,000 animals during his life. Despite this, the World Wildlife Fund thought it a great idea for him to be their President between 1981 and 1996. A good example of the double standards & royal toadying that goes on in life.

The question is, should a tasteless and poorly timed attempt at humour, which clearly offends many, result in a lifetime ban from a football club?
Given that offending people isn't a crime, then I can see no reason for a ban. I know some will be frothing at the mouth and seeking retribution for his tweets, but I think they should maybe get a sense of proportion and just accept some people are dicks.

Maybe they'll reduce the ban when things have settled down and if the fella apologies.

From the club's statement, they have left a door ajar for that: 'As with all decisions, if the individual were to make representations as to why our decision was inappropriate to their actions we will always listen.'
