I've given this some thought and decided he needs to Tweet an apology to the club for including them in his stupidity/misguided attempts at humour. Hopefully that would suffice. Along with another Tweet calling them hypocrites for employing Evans, just to test the water.

A retailer (e.g. a baker) can not refuse to serve someone (e.g. a gay couple) just because they disapprove of their lifestyle or beliefs. This has been tested in law. A football club is a business. It is not a private members club so how can it refuse entry on the grounds of someone’s expressed thoughts or beliefs, however naff they might be. This is a slippery slope.
Preston have banned a fan for life for being derogatory about the Royal Family on 00:02 - Sep 15 with 801 views | monytowbray | If someone makes a remark about the Royals and Nazi salutes I assume context is reference to the fact some Royals were supportive and pally with the Nazi Party pre WWII, as well as there being photos of Royals doing a SH. In that regard, I’d say claiming this is hate speech would potentially be a bit disingenuous. Tasteless and poorly timed, yes. But this whole Disney fairytale act needs to get in the bin too. These criticisms have existed for decades and were ignored, it was always gonna be a divisive time, but so much history has been buried for Rule Britannia propaganda nationalist BS. Lifetime ban seems harsh in that regard too. [Post edited 15 Sep 2022 0:05]

A retailer does *not* have to do business with anyone who goes into their premises shouting hate speech, which is a criminal offence, and which on the face of it (as reported in the thread) is what those tweets were. Any business also has the right to refuse to deal with customers who are abusive.

PNE have ended up having to ‘police’ it. Should clubs have detailed regulations on what action they will take if supporters incite hatred etc inside and/or outside the ground regardless of place (geographical or online)? I don’t know and perhaps they already exist. But I think there needs to be some kind of policy that supporters are aware of so that even the lowest intelligences know how their behaviour could impact their attendance at matches. Personally don’t think the club will miss him based on how he has acted in this scenario but they should give him the chance to change his ways and do better. Lifetime is too much. I bet they say the same about one of their employees if asked about previous behaviour.

Preston signed Evans 2 years after he had been acquitted

Preston have banned a fan for life for being derogatory about the Royal Family on 09:10 - Sep 15 with 657 views | blueasfook | I think the key thing is that he tagged the club in his Twitter posts - thus damaging the club's image. If he had kept the club out of it, then I doubt they'd have any recourse to ban him.

A couple of hundred times and it tends towards extreme boredom.

That might rule out about 50% or more of football supporters, perhaps significantly more for some teams :)

There is no evidence that this was the case. The ban is appropriate but expect it to be reduced in length once the misguided individual offers a suitable apology and promises to behave in future.

That's just a silly comparison. I've certainly never heard any supporters calling for the deaths of an entire real family anyway, even at the worst refs or cheaty players.

You know the banned supporter as also not been found guilty of any crime? The club just doesn't wish to be associated with someone who holds his views. They are however quite happy to be associated with Ched Evans...
