Yes, I always think this when the Champ playoff game has variously been described as "worth" £20m, £40m, £60m, etc. If the successful club then feels the need to increase its transfer and wage budgets by at least that amount, it's hardly a prize. There is very little attempt by many clubs to make their endeavours genuinely financially sustainable, and if I'm trying to be objective I do respect the attitude that Norwich have displayed. When they go up they spend a responsible amount, and generally are found wanting by all those daft clubs on steroids. Many of them will become a Portsmouth, a Bolton, a Derby, a Wigan, a Coventry. And yet the parade of narcissists will continue to want to buy clubs as a play thing. If I were Gamechanger, I would be hoping to get Town to the Premier league, or the cusp thereof, and then to sell to some such narcissist for £100m or more. Where that will leave ITFC is anyone's guess, but at the moment I'm happy enough to enjoy the ride, albeit with this nagging long term concern at the back of my mind.

For me it'll go 2 ways. Sold to an Evans and we go backwards. Or... the 3 lions find investors to match their personal ambitions and the pension pot becomes a share holder whilst we have various investors pumping large sums of cash in. Was it phoenix who had 10 owners?

That’s the key thing. In their last full accounts Chelsea lost over £200m in one year. All PL clubs together lost over a billion. Silly wages wipe out the income. I don’t know about Naarwich last year, but their previous season in the PL gave them a pre-tax profit of under £2m (but they lost £33m the season before getting there). The pension fund don't need to draw an income (dividends) from ITFC. They'll have a valuation model and if that's increasing at an acceptable rate then they're happy.

The premier league is unsustainable in its current form for makeweights - who inevitably teeter on the brink of insolvency in the Prem and when they drop back down.

They don't necessarily have to sell, so that's worth considering. What will happen is the value of the club will be substantially more, even flirting between Prem/Champ (if run properly) so as long as the balance sheet 'worth' of the club is more than what they've put in, then generally the investors will be okay with continued ownership. IMO. Of course, you could be right and they'd look to sell, but long term, there's still value in football (believe it or not) especially with woman's football making strides.

I think our top earner is probably just shy of 20k a week with most on about 9-11K. In the EPL that is more like average about £45k.....

The value is going up not only because of the success of the team but also because of land acquisition, ground development, etc. The vibes coming out about future development of the stadium (inc possibly the carpark in PR, etc) sound to me like someone is in this for the long haul and not a quick turn over for a buck or two.

Sunderland lost £200m from their time being in the PL. It's not always guaranteed to be a money spinner
