They actually remind me of how we played in some of our games at the tail end of last season. Lots of possession, some nice touches and technical ability, but lacking a cutting edge in terms of creating chances.

So many English players out of form, and England as a collective in the depths of a bad slump. In fairness, we were fairly terrible in the lead up to the last Euros but we look even worse now. Not much that can be done for now so will back the side to pull a switcheroo in Qatar, but doesn't look like good times ahead. | |

Gone back to the same as the golden generation of playing players out of position just to get them in team - no game plan against a team that wants to defend - same old England - I thought Gareth was moving us away from this but has gone back round to square one. I’ve said it multiple times. Kyle Walker is not a centre back. Yes he is blisteringly quick and covers a lot of ground covering mistakes, but they’re mostly his own.
The issue is Southgate doesn’t feel confident in a centre back pairing (probably rightly so) so we revert to a 3 at the back and that seems at odds with the attacking personnel and the system they would benefit from |  | | |

In the first half, England kept getting in good positions only to pass it backwards rather than taking the positive option, it was horrible to watch

When anyone voiced doubts about Southgate it was usually met with "the state of this" etc on here. With the attacking and creative talent we have my god are we are incredibly boring to watch. A friendly maybe but I don't think anyone is particularly confident about this World Cup after the summer.
There doesn't look to be a softball draw this time when (or should that be if) we get out of the group!

Southgate did nothing at club level as a manager yes did OK at euros v who exactly a Germany side worst in living memory and bottled the final after leading one nil.
Will never play with no fear or free flowing football with him in charge.
