And I don’t think any of the four (?) penalty shouts at Forest were worthy of being given. How the ref went to the monitor and then decided to point to the spot for Brentford was a joke. Surely a penalty kick should be awarded for a serious infringement in the box which results in the attacking team missing out on a great opportunity to score? Not just for a slight flick on a player’s shin which they feel they have to ham up to show to the ref that they were touched. People will say that if something would be given as a foul outside the box then it should be the same inside it, but a lot of penalties which are given aren’t even fouls for me. Once you wind back the bias applied to decisions concerning your own club, I think most people are pretty fed up of it.

Make the penalty are much smaller, then lets see who goes down so easily...

VAR just got it right in the West Ham game; blatant dive from Antonio. Overturned on review

Kevin De Bruyne on 20:00 - Nov 6 with 2125 views | Swansea_Blue | It’s the inconsistency that does my head it. As an attacking player in open play, only the slightest contact seems an acceptable reason to throw yourself to the ground and get a pen. From a corner, you can wrestle a player to the ground and it’s deemed fine.

Kevin De Bruyne on 20:03 - Nov 6 with 2113 views | Trequartista | Match of the Day was depressing viewing again last night. Players going down with the slightest touch looking for penalties and the farce of VAR on subjective decisions. I don't think the de Bruyne one was even discussed - I thought minimal contact was not to be punished this season? de Bruyne was clipped no question, but he hadn't lost his balance, he simply threw himself to the ground.

What annoyed me was that instead of his diving being called out he was labelled as clever for inviting a touch and then going down. I know that if a player is running at pace a tiny knock could make him fall but that was a blatant dive.

Absolutely. Football is a simple concept. You try and score a goal and if you are impeded unfairly its a foul. Why does cleverly inviting a touch have to even come into it?

It is not the rules, it is crap referees and cheating players

Absolutely. It really was a blatant dive that happened clearly after the minimal contact. Shameful, and I can't believe that on MOTD nobody seemed to raise the question of whether (a) the ref got it wrong, or (b) the player was either cheating or behaving unethically.

VAR seems to have encouraged players to go down a lot more. Possibly because they know that the slightest touch looks so much worse in extra slow-mo when the referees view it again. I’m not really sure what the solution is. It’s a situation that hasn’t just developed but been decades in the making. Posters on here mention Eric Gates going down very easily in the 80s as well as players like Franny Lee doing exactly the same in the 70s - be interesting to discover who they ‘copied’ in terms of flopping in the box. I doubt if they started doing it by themselves- maybe diving has always been an issue and it’s just modern technology that has highlighted it more.
