Boris Johnson’s minions on his honours list. 11:43 - Nov 8 with 2177 viewsMattinLondon

Shameful, utterly shameful that lockdown breakers and brown nosers who use Parliamentary privilege to peddle lie after lie. I know that most former PMs reward their mates but this goes to the next level.

Yest another example of why the honours system needs serious reform. The big change was when Thatcher brought back honours for "political service", which had been (correctly) banned at some stage. The whole system reeks of corruption. Unfortunately, Tony Blair also recognised the power of patronage & did nothing to change it. I wonder if (Sir) Keir Starmer has any plans to reform it.

I doubt it. It’s simply corruption isn’t it - simply a rewards list for people who stayed quiet or loyal whilst the country suffered. Personally I’d start again, abolish the House of Lords and replace it with something better.

Not sure it was Johnson's boots that Nadine Dorries was licking! It was likely somewhere else she was giving a spit and polish though.

Better than her being a government minister.

It's much safer for the country if she is in the HoL instead of the HoC

The Lords is one area that definitely needs reform - despite righties claiming the UK does not need a second chamber.

Whereas what it does not need is the likes of Lloyd-Webber, Botham and a whole host of similar idiots serving no purpose than their own self aggrandisement. Similarly, those men in dresses who tell us there is an imagined man hiding in the clouds.

I cannot see that the vital and necessary work they do carry out could not be done with 200 (or less). PR would work well here, as nobody has ever voted any of those in so using the 'list' system would not disfranchise any voter, and there would not be the horse trading, back room deals, stitch up you get with PR.

I've yet to be convinced either way whether voting should simply reflect the lower house vote or a separate vote at a GE. Perhaps a completely separate 'mid term' vote as in the US.

As this is separate from other baubles...OBE, MBE, IBS etc as they have no bearing on the running of the country, making law (I have wondered if any sanction could be applied, were any person to simply append the letters OBE to their name).

'Off with their heads' might be a bit drastic, but reform is not, and is long overdue.

I wonder what it is cookra liked best about Boris?

Everyone all sing along now...

Was it the racism, the homphobia, the incompetence, the open corruption, the laziness, the criminality or the habitual lying and inability to take accountability?

it appears the R Slickers have been advised not to take up their positions in the Lords

"Four Conservative MPs who were loyal to Boris Johnson and have been nominated for peerages have agreed to delay accepting them to avoid triggering byelections."

“Rishi Sunak should make it clear in no uncertain terms that he will refuse to do Boris Johnson’s bidding and reject his disreputable demands.”
