Saka 21:23 - Dec 10 with 1590 viewstonybied

I think the one mistake Southgate made in that match was subbing Saka for Stirling. Saka was causing all sorts of issues for France. Sterling came on an sat on the halfway line for the rest of the match.

Don't get me wrong I don't think it's a massive glaring mistake, it's about the only thing he didn't quite get right tonight.

Saka was MOTM by a country mile imo. But I commented to my boy that he was looking tired tracking back about 5 minutes before he was taken off.

Sterling wouldn't have been my choice though.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

I would've liked to have seen Maddison given a go.

He'd been kicked all night and really put in a shift, don't think it was surprising to see him subbed.

Said at the time I felt it was a mistake, with the proviso that Saka had taken many knocks & was down after the last one which looked as tho it might be too much for him to carry on with.

Playing Sterling for the last 10 mins after the travelling he's had and with Saka having Hernandez on toast was very odd and a huge mistake.

Sterling is not a patch on Saka who was excellent tonight.

Sala was excellent but looking a bit spent. For me , Grealish should have been brought in.

I don't get why grealish didn't get 30 minutes.

They could deal with quick feet and players dropping shoulders etc. Why not bring on someone known as a show pony when he's so unpredictable with the ball.

Yes Saka was excellent tonight but he was struggling , his race was run .

Saka was shattered and going off made sense. Rashford or Grealish should have come on though; not Sterling.

I'm not so sure. Talented player, yes of course, but for me didn't impose his game enough & isn't physically strong enough. Refs have let games flow & allowed good tough challenges for the ball in this WC, & have largely ignored anyone they felt guilty of simulation. Saka was unfortunately knocked off the ball too easily. That's how I saw it. As a team we didn't create enough clear chances. Girouds goal was quality. 56 years of hurt & continuing.

Saka fell into the Chaplin trap for me.

Quick feet. Continuous running and battles with players that results in numerous coming togethers. I don't see many refs giving freekick after freekick everytime there is a tangle.

I'd have brought on Rashford, Sterling and Grealish at least ten minutes earlier. Saka was obviously tiring, feel the extra pace and goalscoring ability (Rashford) would have troubled the French greatly.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Should have replaced him with Grealish or Rashford.

Giving Grealish two minutes at the end was just silly.

Truly impaired.

He was jaded and taken a string of knocks, no issue with him coming off. Other than our slightly tepid start, I thought Southgate got it bang on. A few moments of real quality undid us. Kane scores that penalty and we go on to win the World Cup in my opinion. It’s a shame but can’t really complain and not too resentful of losing given that was the game the final should have been.

It seemed Grealish came on to replace Stones when he took a knock rather than a tactical change. Agree on Rashford, probably should have come earlier.
