England Big games on 07:53 - Dec 11 with 1125 views | dickie | I guess though, seeing as we've not won the world cup since 66 it's probably stating the obvious that we haven't been good enough in big knockout games - if we had we'd have more than one star above the badge
England Big games on 08:06 - Dec 11 with 1109 views | Chrisd | The result was disappointing, but I thought the performance overall was one to be encouraged about. Let’s not forget, a lot of our key players are young too. Strangely, I am more hopeful in going forwards and feel with a couple of squad additions, we are not that far away from having a squad capable of winning a major competition, it isn’t that often I have said that about England.

England Big games on 08:53 - Dec 11 with 1072 views | Dubtractor | I agree in principle that we're just not quite good enough, but your premise that we never win big games ignores the big games we HAVE won to get through to quarter and semi finals a few times.

It’s almost like winning international tournaments is very difficult

England Big games on 09:37 - Dec 11 with 990 views | DBaldy | I get your point but you can't say we haven't won any big knockout games n that timeframe. What about beating Germany in the Euro's QF last year & then winning the semi against Denmark? They were pretty big games if you ask me. Or reaching the semi's in the last world cup? Ok so Colombia and Sweden aren't world beaters but we won our first ever penalty shootout vs Colombia in what was an incredibly tense & highly charged atmosphere. Have we underperformed or underachieved relative to expectations since 1966? Absolutely. But to say we haven't won any big games since then is inaccurate.
England Big games on 10:01 - Dec 11 with 948 views | Darth_Koont | Getting to the QF is a little above par considering England is only just scraping into the top 10 of major footballing nations since 1966. In Europe, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands and Croatia have all done a fair bit better. Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay too. So it’s England, Portugal and Belgium fighting to join them in the top 10 but still not at the level of the others. I would say that the England team could do a lot better/stronger over the next couple of major championships but that long-term development has a habit of being thrown away as the pressure grows on the manager and players to deliver in the here and now.
