Interestingly, I think it’s the second game in a row where our next opposition has publicly criticised officials outside of an interview. Sheffield Wednesday put it a complaint to the referee’s association, IIRC, and now Barton on Twitter. |  |

They are an absolute joke at this level in the main though.. We know it’s not an easy job but they’re regularly getting the rules wrong which is a concern!
Need tech at all levels of the game to protect its integrity and the FA or football league should be supporting that financially. I don’t see how a game at our level is any less important than one further up the pyramid - the tech should be the same and funded. | | | |

Lack of technology is probably the best thing about supporting a club at our level, apart from goal line.

The galling thing is that the PL could easily fund professional referees throughout the EFL and not even notice it.
When the EFL won't even use its own referees for the League 2 playoff final, it's a rather telling state of affairs. | |

The regular f*** ups with VAR have already proved that the issue is not solvable with tech, as at the end of the day, you still need people to make decisions, and the human side of things will still result in issues.
The only way to get better refs, is to have more of them. We have a ref crisis already. What we need is more money for refs all the way down the pyramid, and more respect from players, fans and officials all the way from grass roots to prem.
The sort of thing that Barton is doing, doesn't help. Yes the refs make mistakes, but so does he, and so do all the players, constantly calling them out, and using them as a deflection tool for other failures doesn't help anyone. Its worth noting, that the South African rugby coach has received bans for this sort of social media takedown of refs. Football needs to take a far harder line with dissent to refs, either within the 90 minutes, or outside. | |
