Biggie Saturday 10:46 - Feb 21 with 2098 viewsclive_baker

Feel like we say it every week, and probably because they are all big games in our position. It's nice to be involved in big games though I must say, it's not too long ago where even the playoffs seemed out of reach at a similar stage of the season.

Can't help but look at Saturday as potentially a very big day in the context of our season though. Having not won on the road since Exeter in mid November believe it or not, we really need to be picking up maximum points at MK. It would take us to 12 points from our last 6 games which is a nice run rate, and on a day where Plymouth go to Peterborough and Sheff Wed go to Charlton it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the table could look a little more positive with a Town win. With back to back home games to follow it really could be the momentum push we've been looking for.

Sadly I can't make it, but I hope the strong Town following are in good voice and see a performance they deserve. COYB.

You’ve said it here. If you are aiming to be in the mix or competing for an automatic place all are big games from the start of the season; the real pressure stuff starts Feb and increases from there for as long as you are in the race.

If we manage the first 14 'W' we won't need the last three!

.... into the team, and importantly the fan base.

Charlton away was a blow, could have built some real momentum into the project (albeit we did go away and professionally dispatch Exeter).. and Charlton would have of course really have boosted the fans belief.. which was further knocked with some last minute deflected goals.

You only have to look on this board and some of the dissent, or listen to mutterings on the terrace to know fans have a glass jaw at present.

A strong display and win in front of 7000 away blues, a big chunk of PR matchday, could really fire everything up... and reconnect fans and players more strongly (following the grimness of Bristol Rovers away).

Also its a BIG game occasion with that many away fans.. and we have a habit of not raising our game to these events - see 0-0 last year (albeit that was as a strong MK side) - and we will need that with play-offs looking likely.

COYFB - can't wait

that we still looked quite slow and obvious against FGR, a few flashes of real quality aside. The oppo had nothing though, and the early goal meant we could continue playing the patient percentage patterns game that McK sticks to. We were doing the same when on hot form, just quicker, with more thrust, and more confidently.

Get confidence back and no reason we can't beat the better teams we have to visit coming up. It's hardly a negative observation that failing to win the next three shows we don't deserve to be in anything other than the playoff mix (hopefully).

Time to step up innit. They are all biggies now.

14 games of nail biting madness:

Town W9 D4 L1 - 31 points
Plymouth W7 D5 L2 - 26 points

Final points:

Plymouth - 94
Town - 91

Arghhhhh!!! Close but no cigar. 91 points and no promotion feels likely this season, 91 points is a terrific points tally. But we go into the play-offs in form!

Well that's my prediction anyway

I think auto has gone. We are back in the pack now when you consider games in hand. 3 points from Cambridge, Wednesday and Bristol Rovers was not good enough.

Not saying it's impossible, just very unlikely given the quality of Weds and Plymouth.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Agree automatic very unlikely.. and in another thread calculated as much

But same sentiment for the momentum energy Saturday would bring into the form we take into the play-offs

Out of interest, why do you see us drawing with Derby away but losing to them at home?

Part of our issue is that we barely ever seem to win when we're aren't playing at our fluent best.

We need to be winning away games where we play indifferently, where the tempo isn't electric, when all we're doing is just grinding away at the opposition. That means keeping clean sheets and consistently taking chances that come our way, more than it means ripping teams to shreds every week.

Because, you know what, much as we were rubbish at Bristol Rovers, Cambridge and Oxford, a ruthless team wins all three, even without the overall performance being any better.
