Difficult squad decisions in the summer. 16:19 - Mar 26 with 2788 viewsNutkins_Return

*changed title from "who goes in summer" to be a.bit more respectful.

I'm not sure there will be a big change in who stays and who goes in the summer based on league we are in (1 or 2 possibly stay if still in league one). Some tough decisions.

I think will go:

KVY
Keogh (stays as coach)
Hladky (won't do another season as 2).
Penney
Harper
El Mizouni (sad to see him go but one of those best for all parties - Humphreys pathway needs to be kept open)
Ahadme (or season loan out)
Pigott
Edwards (desperately hope not but he seemingly doesn't fit McKenna system)
Harness (if we go up I don't think he has done enough to show he can make the step)
Jackson (If we go up he'll go as we'll need to make room for upgrades)

Effectively gives us 5 outfield + 1 keeper over 21 options to uplift in the squad. Would imagine we'll be looking for 5-6 outfield signings in the 20-26 bracket this summer. Quality over quantity are in league one. Maybe 7-8 for Champ.

Why won't Hladky do another season as number 2? I actually think we need an upgrade on him as back-up so agree he will go.

El Mizouni could stay and get loaned out again. It depends on what offers we got for him and how good his ceiling is deemed to be.

I am sure Ahadme and Pigott will go if we can move them on.

Any of the other moves will depend on what offers we get and who we are replacing with. I think there is a core of a squad who wouldn't move on but beyond that it depends on what interest there is.

Why is that? More or less on the back of Ashton discuss the fact they had their first discussion on summer transfers and that won't be much difference if up or still down

As per post their is no assumption on what div we are in.

If any of the players are looking at that's your concern they absolutely have the opportunity to force their stake. Some absolutely quality players on that list IMO.

I missed Aluko. Another quality player but he may want to play more.

Clarke counts as a senior. player next season, this year he is an U21. TJJ, should he come back would also be a senior next season.

El Miz could go back to Orient in L1 next season, should they go up. He has a deal for one or two more seasons so no need to rush a decision.

More likely that Ahadme and Pigott will be sitting on the remainder of their contracts with us. Therefore season long loans for both of them.

Not once did he speculate on who would be leaving. It feels like it is in poor taste to speculate on who might leave when each player has 9 games left to help get us promoted and stamp a claim on being a contributing member of the first team next season.

Fair enough. It's just a bit of debate. Really not sure this warrants "poor taste". It's standard football talk. We can leave it there if wanted.

I said the exact same thing about players pushing to stake a claim for places in squad. That is as it's ever been.

The squad has been fantastic in my view. I'd happily keep most. There is no offense intended or I think given in this post.

Agreed. It’s an unnecessary distraction from the serious stuff, folks are paid to deal with this behind closed doors as we speak.

I’d keep Jackson, Harness and KVY if there is a deal to be done. If they’re happy to play back up then it keeps the lovely balance/harmony of the squad. Add Edwards to that list.

I don’t know why Hladly wouldn’t be happy either.

Would love KVY to stay
Edwards also to stay
But Dwayne Dibley (sorry TJJ)
Still not convinced on Harness
Jackson - KEEP

If we go up improvements on
Hladky
KVY
Keogh to coaching
Jackson
Aluko
Humpreys loan
El Mitz loan or sell
Evans possibly due to injuries
And possibly 2 /3 more in Jan if they can't take the leap

There’s quite a few obvious names that we will be looking to offload and some that are 50/50 and will be dependent on what league we are in, as you pointed out. I believe McK’s comments on what we will be looking for (and it not making a difference on what league we’re in) is centred squarely from the sense of positions, but the players we actually can and will sign, are 100% different if we are in Championship, to what we will target and can get across the line for League 1, not in small part due to the inevitable considerable further investment you’d expect from the owners for reaching Championship, that likely isn’t available for League 1. That’s not to say that they won’t give us money, but they’ll certainly be much happier to provide a bigger war chest if we are promoted as they will be achieving a quicker return. Also, we will be able to attract a higher class of loanee, as McK has already said.

I agree. They are all really good guys. I think it comes down more to limits in squad size etc and if we want to keep moving forward tough decisions would need to be made.

I'd love to see Edwards play more and start more games but McKenna has found the formula and you can't really argue with it.

It's testament to our squad that there isn't anyone id be 'happy' to see go. And really nearly all can win a squad place next season as really competitive.
