Off for a long weekend in Aldeburgh 19:20 - Apr 5 with 1633 viewsvilanovablue

Me, my cousin and elderly uncle who is still v. mobile are visiting Aldeburgh for 3 nights. Recommendations for decent walks, places to eat and things to see. Let me know your thoughts please. Might be able to get to get to the Charlton game! I've leaned on a contact who might come through.

Speaking as an occasional tourist to that area Thorpeness is lovely as is Snape Maltings, for a gentle stroll then shop/munch. Framinglingham was pleasant too.

Sure the locals will do better on the advice.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

I think there have been a few additions recently on the restaurant scene but whenever I'm over I'll go to the Mill Inn for v.good pub food and ale. The Lighthouse was always my preferred evening venue for a bite. I also love the cinema there if anything decent is on, it's reasonably priced and you can fill your boots at the snack bar without feeling like you've been robbed.

If you've got a motor the Westleton Crown is excellent day time or evening.

Enjoy :)

Sweffling White Horse for a cosy drink and they do a pot of food on a Friday but Mum's the word!

The website has some walks on it and The Pancakes are playing on Saturday night so well worth a visit.

Is it still open? Owners are looking to sell

Aldeburgh to Thorpeness walk. Along the coast via Maggi Hambling's sculpture on the beach, then back through Thorpeness golf course to Aldeburgh.

Another nice walk is from Aldeburgh harbour and up the Alde estuary.

Fish & chips in Aldeburgh. The pub by the chippy lets you eat your fish in the pub garden provided you buy a drink.

Coffee and elevenses at the Two Magpies cafe.

If it's open, a visit to Benjamin Britten's house.

The walk all the way to Snape maltings is very good depending on the Uncle's fitness.

The Suffolk is a good restaurant, especially if you like seafood.

My personal favourite pub is the White Hart (locally called the Potty Bar) up by the fish and chip shop. You can take your F&C into the pub garden or buy from their pizza oven and have a decent pint of Adnams bitter.

A walk to Thorpeness and back is a must. Possibly to go via the old railway line then back via the beach. Can rent the rowing boats on the Mere then have a bite in The Dolphin.

A general browse of the shops and taking a bottle of wine or beers (or teapot) onto the Crag Path wall is a good way to people watch over Easter with it likely to be busy.

Sailors Path Walk to Snape ending in the Crown or the Golden Key

Aldeburgh to Thorpeness ending in the Dolphin

Whilst in Aldeburgh, White Hart (Potty Bar) and then Fish and Chips

Restaurants - Regatta or Lighthouse

Further afield, nice walks through Orford and end in the Butley Oysterage

Sea Spice is an Indian restaurant in the White Lion Hotel. It's superb.

Also if you want a light lunch, the Brudenell has a really good selection of options with great views across the beach and sea.

Check out DP's Bar (David's Place) in the middle of Ald,eburgh town centre. Very popular with the locals and often has live music, and there is also a Thai Street Cafe there from Spring to Autumn. Well worth a visit , if only for a few drinks.

Lots of nice walks in the area. Try going to the Eel's Foot in Eastbridge. There is a very nice walk which goes from Eastbridge to the sea coast and then around by Minsmere bird reserve back to Eastbridge. Goes around in a circle, quite a long way though if you do the full circle, maybe about 5 miles.

The Thorpeness is the most well known walk, but the best walk imo is from Aldeburgh yacht club up the river - you have to time it for when the sun is setting and it is stunning at that time of day.

Another vote for the Fish & Chip shop near the White Hart.

And if the queue is big, simply get a pint from the pub and drink it while you're queuing.
