That is a positive step, although only covers the front of the shirt apparently, not the sleeves. Clubs can continue to bombard fans with relentless betting adverts from the LED board throughout the matches, with flashing and animation to try to take our attention off the football and onto the betting ads.

Would only really mean anything if it was a total ban in my opinion. The damage it does to fans and the general population is massive. No different to smoking brands and F1 when I was a kid.

Agree 100%.

The announcement today is no different to if F1 had announced that cigarette companies could no longer advertise on the rear wings of cars.

Total waste of time. Lip service just like all the claptrap adverts the companies put out trying to make us 'Gamble aware' - total b@ll@cks.

About time isn't it by BlueBadger 13 Apr 2023 15:09
It's much too little, too late as well, in my view. Deeply problematic gambling behaviours are now becoming embedded in wider football culture. Took in a game in a pub a few weeks ago and the amount of ads for gambling firms, website, etc, etc on Sky during matchday coverage in particular is shocking.

Next table from me was a fella and his two kids who were no older than 14 tops. Dad had a bet on and had also laid beings 'for' his kids. At various points during the game as live scores form other game scam in he was asking the kids stiff like 'do you want to cash out yet'.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

But even with this announcement now, it’s not going to come into force until 2026.. and still going to be perimeter advertising, so it’s just a gesture by looks of it.

Plus I suspect that the perimeter advertising will continue to get larger, bolder, brighter and more instrusive. Some clubs are going for the 'supersized' LED boards now as well as other tiers of LED boards in the stadiums. It wouldn't surprise me to see them showing live odds on those boards soon, if they don't already.
