Barnsley will get a grovelling phone call from the referee's association after the game saying a penalty should have been given. How many times do obvious decisions get missed for it to be consistently marked as incompetence?

I agree. Poor refereeing. But calling the ref corrupt is too far imo,

Refereeing needs overhauling in his country. When even VAR decisions are so drastically wrong so often, it's clear there's too many who are not fit for purpose.

Crap officials. We’ve suffered numerous poor decision in the last few season. But VAR should put those right if it’s available. But all too often it doesn’t.

The way they did it. I was a neutral heading into the game, but that penalty decision and then the red card... Talk about a helping hand. [Post edited 29 May 2023 18:04]

That’s football I guess, they also got 96 points and came from 4-0 down. Certainly got the rub of the green today.

Ref & assessor on VAR (suggestion not from me btw, just passing it on - but you can't help noticing how it's always SW that seem to get the breaks, never their opponents).

You mean the way the officials did it. Wasn't Wednesdays fault.
Well done, referee/VAR. You did your job (n/t) on 18:09 - May 29 with 2463 views | xrayspecs | Thought Barnsley should have had the penalty but can see why the red card was given. VAR can only call the ref to the monitor if was a clear and obvious error, which it was not. I think VAR should be changed so that refs get the advantage of seeing the incident again before making a final decision. [Post edited 29 May 2023 18:17]

I'd have more sympathy if it was purely on the referee but for the penalty decision to be looked at by VAR and not overturned... Agree about overturning the 4-0 in the second leg, though even then they should have probably been down to ten at, was it 3-0 or 4-0, when the Peterborough guy was through, brought down, and nothing was given when it should have been a red card for a professional foul. But for the overall season record, perhaps they earned their luck.

It's a vicious circle with referees. The abuse drives many of them out, which means we end up with referees who are even worse. The abuse decreases and then even more leave. VAR was a shambles today though.

Anyone got a clip of the penalty shout? I didn’t see a reply and SkySports videos on twitter don’t work in my region.

A certain journalist wrote in the EADT that a referee in one of our games, last season, was corrupt. The article had to be withdrawn. Trying to wrack my brains which game, but I really can't remember.

The linesman and the VAR guys made a massive fcuk up then when they disallowed the Wednesday goal for offside.

Only by waiting so long to flag. He was clearly offside, so clearly that I called it in real time.

Pffft. The penalty would have been harsh but probably should have been given. Not sure what people are moaning about with the red card, both feet are off the floor and his leading foot is almost knee height. Ridiculous attempt at a challenge and no need to give the referee a decision to make. His saving grace is that he’s made little contact. Had he, then there would have been a serious injury.

Leading foot went into totally empty space. Cue the Wednesday player rolling around & banging the turf as though his leg had been there & had been seriously injured.
