Surely Morsy is off? 07:42 - Jul 21 with 9605 viewsWallingford_Boy

I mean, I’m gutted, but at his age it’s just too big an opportunity, he’d be mad to say no.

I’m happy with Luongo/Taylor but guess we’ll be after a replacement.

RIP Sir Bobby

I think so, especially as Phil said on the main story that there’s some truth in it.

Whilst initially it sounds bad news I wonder if the recruitment team can work some magic with circa 2-3m and find a replacement to improve us? I love Morsy don’t get me wrong but he’s played most of his career in L1 compared to Championship appearances and is also nearly 32. I’d like to see Chappers wear the armband too.

Exactly, would any of us turn down that sort of money? No chance!

There'd need to be an acceptable bid first. There's always quite a gap between rumoured interest and a deal actually happening. Phil seems to think this could just as easily be a bargaining chip for Morsy to seek a better deal here.

As much as he’s been bl00dy brilliant for us, I feel I’d be more gutted if one of our younger players went (Davis/Broady/Woolfie etc) as I think they’d be harder to replace. Given his age I suspect the club would be tempted if a sizeable bid came in, just hope any deal (should it happen) wasn’t left too close to the season starting.

Not sure to be honest. Glory and honour might be a better yard stick than cash for some. Some might want a better legacy than lower league honours and a pot of cash. Time will tell but I imagine we’ll be doing all we can to keep him as he’s integral to a successful season.

If Henderson goes it shows what is more important to 90% of players after all his past bluster.
I understand players like Morsey who although earned a good living nothing like top end premier league players those on 150 grand a week plus just utter greed.

His career peaked when he represented his country in a World Cup, nothing he will be able to achieve here will touch that in reality so can see why he'd be interested in a new challenge.

Would be a huge loss for us - but if we want to trade players to make money, if an opportunity to sell a 32 year old for good money then you have to take it.

I'll still hope to see us leading us out come September when the transfer window shuts but every player is available for the right price and all are bets are off when the Saudi's come knocking as bigger clubs than us are finding out

Very difficult to replace a player like Morsy.

He fits McKenna's system perfectly and super effective in his role. Moreover, his impact as captain and influence around the club (especially, in terms of shaping culture) isn't to be underestimated. When Paul Cook said Morsy will change the fortunes of this club, he wasn't wrong.

You'd hope work had already gone in to finding a long term replacement for Morsy and that Ashton will make them pay through the nose in terms of a transfer fee. Flynn Downes would be a fantastic option, but he'd be pricy and they'd be some serious Championship competition.

Agree but he still has opportunity to play in the PL staying here. Leave and that door closes. Stick or twist time.

I saw Henderson will earn more on this one contract than he has in rest of career up until now - crazy stuff.

If I could earn more than I have in my career for spending 2 years in Saudi I'd do it - don't know what that figure is but it's probably not much different to what Henderson is earning in a week and would be life changing and worth it.

And good luck to you, for sure. Your situation (not to diminish your influence ;)) is a bit different to someone in a position of publicity and role modelling. I had this position with LIV and I think I'll broadly stick by it when it comes to football in Saudi (albeit on a case by case basis). Henderson put a lot into the Rainbow Laces campaign, so if he goes and plays in Saudi, I think it's fair to point out the level of hypocrisy.

Some people get quite defensive when others make what they consider to be a principled stand, especially when it comes to turning down money. But who am I to judge, eh? We're all walking contradictions.

Replacing him will be the biggest problem. He really is the heart beat of the team. Without his presence we could look a lot softer to the opposition.

The banter era suggests he stays and gets injured over in Austria and is out for the first half of the season

How would you be happy with us going into a division above with a weaker midfield than last season?

I’d be devastated to lose Morsy but I can see it happening with his age and the way the club works nowadays.

We’d need a younger replacement lined up.

How do you know it will be weaker?

We may get a Morsy MKII in who is 10 yrs younger.

While Morsy is a fantastic player and captain and would leave a big hole the club is bigger than any one player.

We will have to get used to this as players will be sold to fund our upwards trajectory to allow more players to be brought in and developed.

So would I.

If there's one religion whose zealots I abhor more than any other, it's the religion of Mammon.

That they are so rabid that they think that everybody else must be as fanatically and absolutely driven by money above all else drives me to despair for their souls and for the future of any world they control.

Their downvotes have no currency either.

Also. Are people saying if morsy broke a leg we might as sell forfeit the season?

KM would just adjust the midfield roles and we'd carry on as we have done.
