Big up the footballing gods 08:46 - Sep 3 with 2703 views | Asa | My son was mascot yesterday. He was having the absolute time of his life, meeting the players, chatting to Mark Ashton, being interviewed on the pitch, taking penalties against Crazee and then walking out with George Hirst, who was absolutely fantastic with him. He is also half Welsh and loved shaking hands with Aaron Ramsey. Then the football started and I was so gutted for him that it was looking like he might remember a poor result more than anything else. He couldn’t believe the one big home defeat in however many seasons was on his big day. What a comeback to be associated win with! All in all, he said it was the best day he’s ever had. Massive credit to the club. Spoke with Mark Ashton for some time before the game about the previous regime and how my eldest son, who loved football once, is not bothered about coming to games since McCarthy took his love of going to football away boring him week after week and the contrast with my youngest who is ITFC obsessed, a lot of which down to Gamechanger. Ashton said that they are barely even started with the plans for the club, the stadium, how it flows, catering and the supporter experience. What yesterday really showed though was just how much every Town employee we dealt with loves coming to work and how much everybody high up within the club cares about giving the fans the best experience possible. They couldn’t have done more for him yesterday as a club. Mark Ashton even joked with him they could do a contract with him then and there after he mentioned he’d be playing for us in a few years. Hard to believe this is the same club going nowhere from a few years ago. [Post edited 3 Sep 2023 9:22]

Big up the footballing gods on 08:55 - Sep 3 with 2568 views | BloomBlue | Delighted he enjoyed it. Funnily enough chatting to my mate at the game (we've been going to Town games together now for near 60 years) we both said how lovely it is to see so many youngsters walking out with the players. Its every home game now, gives a much more family feel to the whole experience. Adding to that it's great to see so many more women at the matches, the entire family feeling is back at the club.
Big up the footballing gods on 09:03 - Sep 3 with 2471 views | Churchman | I’m pleased your son had such a good day. Just as it should be. I did notice him walking out with Hirst and he looked to be having the time of his life. I’m sure your eldest son will re-engage with it at some point, but I can understand how he became disenchanted with it under the previous regime. Going to PR is light years different to anything I’ve seen in more than 20 years. Walking up to the stadium, you can feel it. I include Royle and Magilton’s time, not because the team didn’t play in an exciting way and they didn’t do a good job. They did, but there was always the feel that they were fighting financial restriction and decline for all but Jim’s last season. Your conversation with Ashton is interesting in that it’s a first hand sense of what the club is trying to do.

How long did you stay away for out of interest? Glad your son had a great day I have my sons booked in for April. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

My dad knows a few of the local journos and they interviewed him and a few other fans at the height of being pissed off at Evans. Nothing to do with me. I didn’t stay away at any point. Although I wish I’d kept my eldest away during McCarthy and he may still love football as much as he did.

Fair enough, was just interested in what got you back into it and when you got back into it as I wrongly thought you had given up your season ticket as well. Fair play for staying loyal through those times you deserve these times more than anyone else!

Would love Ashton to try and get your older son to re engage , because I’m sure he would learn to love the Club again if the club approached him …. As to this … “Ashton said that they are barely even started with the plans for the club, the stadium, how it flows, catering and the supporter experience”. Come on …. What else did he then say, lol. If what we have seen d do o far is “ just the start”, what ever else do they have planned?

It's great to know that the club are making every effort to ensure future generations are fully engaged with the club. I must admit I was getting worried that we were going to keep losing generations of fans due to the mismanagement by Evans. Mind you it's not just youngsters, I can't get enough watching all football now after barely being able to watch Town 2-3 years ago. Long may it continue and hopefully your older son gets the bug again too!

He didn’t give away anything more than that other than alluding to the fact they plan to make every aspect of the club as good as the best parts currently.

Seen , on Facebook, photos posted by a friend whose son was also a mascot Saturday. Individual photos of their son with at least a dozen players, all of which seemed to be enjoying it. Shows the togetherness that exists between players, management & fans. Reminds me of the season we finished 5th in Premiership. Everyone on a great adventure.

Big up the footballing gods on 09:49 - Sep 4 with 1141 views | Naylorsrightboot | Don't know why Mick still gets stick from some. Club had no money, he had cr@p players that no one else wanted, he did what was necessary to keep Town in the Championship, that was what he was told to do, he did it. Evans was the problem, if Mick had had the money it might have been a different story.
