Absolute shambles of an institution.

Wonder how many Met officers witnessed it and failed to come forward?

Almost as if they are institutionally corrupt and put their loyalty to their colleagues ahead of serving justice.

Same as ever police officers covering for their criminal colleagues, nothing changes does it. Complicit in their silence.

That’s a fair point but when they close ranks after nearly killing someone, people will understandably react the way they do.

“Could not be identified”

“In the letter, O’Donnell said: “I sincerely regret, despite extensive inquiries, the officer who struck you did not come forward, could not be identified and has not been held to account for their actions.”

Unfortunately, slagging the police off is seen as fair game on here. Some have an agenda, for what may well be justified personal reasons, and others just like to jump on the bandwagon. Easy target I'm afraid, and totally ignoring the many thousands of excellent police officers who do an excellent job in increasingly difficult circumstances. Most of the critics on here would never be able to do the job themselves, but that doesn't stop them shouting from the rooftops at every opportunity. Funnily enough, they never highlight the positive stories of bravery in the face of adversity.

I remember seeing the tuition fee demonstrations because I worked in Whitehall at the time, and it's particularly shocking how long it has taken him to get justice of some sort.

I'm not slagging off the police, I'm slagging off the Met.

Time and again these sort of incidents happen, time and again they close ranks, time and again the truth eventually comes out.

As the OP clearly states the target is the Met, which its own commissioner described as ‘institutionally corrupt’ , it’s not just one officer it’s many officers over a large time period.

The Met is made up of thousands of policemen, who often work in very dangerous situations to protect the public. Every attack on the Met further dents the morale of the vast majority who selflessly put their necks on the line for our safety. But most people don't think about the honest and professional majority - they just focus on the few bad eggs, who are hated by their colleagues for the damage that they do. But only bad news makes headlines, and therefore skews the public perception.
This isn't a dig at you btw, Dubbers - just a general observation.

The Met has been declared institutionally racist and corrupt. It's disingenuous to suggest it's a few bad eggs, a few rotten apples or whatever placating cliche is thrown their way. There are clearly deep rooted ssrious issues that can't just be batted away by blaming it on rogue officers, same as West Yorkshire.

He said nothing of the sort.

Identifying an orgaanisation as institutionally corrupt, racist, misogynist or homophobic doesn't mean every officer is corrupt, racist etc.

It means the organisation is, in it's collective dealings, in it's recruitment, it's outcomes, it's policies and it's culture.

Worst of all, is how ordinary police turn a blind eye to the wronguns in their midst. That is why I have been using institutionally corrupt to describe policing long before the recent bad publicity,

It is patently obvious to any independent observer that the police consistently fail to identofy and speak out against dodgy colleagues.

If you think that is unfair, that's fine, but I'll go with those who have actually looked at and reported on those multiple failings, like Cassey.

No idea of your connections (if any) with the police but making the 'few bad apples" case simply means you are in denial of the cultural failings imho, or worse, are an apologist for that culture of omerta and cover up that is so frequently shown for what it is.

That there are good police does not mean the organisation is not corrupt etc. Hiding behind the bad apples line is an avoidance strategy used by many within policing whose defensiveness is very much a part of the problem.
